I'm not sure where I stand. We can't just go bombing the middle-east. We're involved w/ some dangerous groups here - chemical warfare anyone???? I shure as hell don't want that happening, but I understand that we must take some sort of action. And hey, could we stop being asses to each other? Everyone will have their own, unique opinion. RESPECT OTHER'S and they'll respect your's. I'm very proud to live in a county where I can listen to opinions, other than mine, and opinions other than the one's I've been brainwashed with ala Bin Laden et al...

I am anti war, although I agree that something must be done.

I guess the main reason I am anti war is I hate war, and if this war takes place it'll probably end up another vietnam or something and drag on for years.
I don't want to be drafted, etc...

So apathy is your answer? Just ignore them and hope they'll go away?! People like you are the dangerous ones... you think about your own self-interest, and hope you don't get drafted. People like you are the ones that will perpetuate the violence, but scums like these will never go away. For 10 years, teh US has gone through attack after attack, after attack, and never responded... and now 5000+ innocents are dead. And you want to continue this behavior?

Yeah I figured I would get flamed or something.

Sorry if I am "dangerous", and yes I know these guys don't need to run around and just blow stuff up. What happened Tuesday shocked me more than anything has lately.

But I don't want to be apart of this war. I know several people who don't want to get drafted as well.

For those of you who are anti-war. Too bad. Death is in the wind and we will return the favor. For the most part, civilians will be protected by the use of smart bombs and attacks on military targets. The terrorist and the Taliban will be our targets not the people. There is no question that Afghanistan will soon have new leadership, and its way of life will change for the better. This change will be funded with American blood but that is nothing new as our past speaks for itself. Those of you who are anti-war should just be thankful that the U.S. is going to be merciful and not unleash the full power of our military.
Take that for what it's worth.

Pro-War.

On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, the United States was attacked by cowards. This wasn't merely an attack on the United States, but an attack on Democracy and Freedom -- and everything they stand for in freedom-loving countries worldwide.

Freedom does not come free. In fact, it often comes at a high price. But Freedom must be defended at any and all costs.

So let somebody else die for you? Let somebody else fight for your freedom and liberty? Oh well, people like you sicken me. But it's your perogative how you feel. It just disturbs me you're not willing to preserve your way of life, but rather have others do it for you.

I need to know more. Do we really know who did this?

I remember after the Oklahoma City bombing some people were saying we should carpet bomb a number of Arab countries on general principal.

Pro-Justice

But not pro war. Definitely NOT pro "revenge or vengence". Just justice.

I personally and concerned by the fact that there's no discussion taking place anywhere that I've seen in our media that tries to look into the "why" behind all of this and I think perhaps we should.

I believe terrorist cells need to be rooted out and known terrorists need to be brought in to face the judicial system for this crime. I believe we should and must protect ourselves here at home and tighten our security. But I think that bullets kill men but not their ideas and if we act out of anger and start killing indiscriminately without taking time to examine the "why" behind the desperation of those who perpetrated this then we will simply create more anger and a new would be terrorist will step in to fill the shoes of each we kill. Know what I mean? It takes more than guns to kill an idea.

It is the idea we should be trying to figure out and trying to see what we can do to vanquish it.

Can anyone tell me why we really do support Israel to the extent that we do year after year? Did you know that they took advantage of this event to roll in force into Jerico right now with tanks? Isn't it possible that the foreign policies past administrations left us with might bear some scruitiny?

That's all I'm asking. Yes- I want these criminals to be captured and to face prosecution. I'd like terrorist training camps shut down and like domestic cells found & arrested. I want our national domestics security improved. But I think we should act with our heads and not just our hormones.

For those who are anti-war, come to to NYC and witness the remains of the first battle. Any anti-war backers in the US want a ticket out of the country? I'll chip in, one-way tickets only.

<< If I learned my history well...I believe the Russians lost the war with ahfganistan ( too lazy to correct spelling ) and it is going to be a tough war for us too since the russians pretty much have everything (technology wise) we have. >>

You need to read history! First off Russians can't fight very well. They fight about as bad as the French or Italians (maybe even worse). Also, they do not have all the technology that we have (didn't you watch the Gulf War on TV?). The Soviets fought well in WW2 because we supplied them with lots of stuff (espically food & trucks) and they had a brutal dictator. Get a grip, the Russians can't even beat the Chetchenins and have been beaten by countries like Estonia, Sweden, Japan, and Poland (numerous times).

Plus it's not our goal to occupy Afghanistan, we will let the Taliban obbosition group that currently controls about 10% of the country do that.

Very much so pro war. I say kill 'em all. That will solve the problem. We can probably conquer all these offending countries in about 3 weeks anyway so why not? They all fight about as bad a Iraq.

An applicable quote.

´´War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.´´ --John Stuart Mill

This is not a war against a race of people, it is a war against terrorists. It is a war against those who would destroy innocents in an attempt to further their agenda. It is a war against those who cannot bear to see anyone that does not live in the way that they want them to live. It is a war against religious intolerance and the ones that would spread lies about a group of people in order to destroy them. Osmana bin Laden is but the figurehead of those we will take action against but he is not the only one. Any group that uses terrorism as a political tool will be our enemy and the enemy of all peace loving people. Words will not stop them. Conceding to them will only make them stronger. They must be removed as you remove a cancer from a diseased body.

This is a war for our survival.

<< Get a grip, the Russians can't even beat the Chetchenins and have been beaten by countries like Estonia, Sweden, Japan, and Poland (numerous times). >>

First, Sweden hasn't been in war with Russia in 200 years, and then the swedes lost. Estonia hasn't fought Russia either, they simply used the confision in the Sovjet and claimed their independence. Poland hasn't beat russia either, atleast not during the 20th centuary. Japan has done some fighting with russia, though not since ww2.
Second: The russians have the same problem in Chetnya as America will face in Afghanistan, namely that there is no real enemy to fight. The enemy just blend in with the civil population and strikes when he find a soft spot.
It's always hard to occupy a country, there is always resistence. And make no mistakes, the afghans know how to do that better than us from the west.
You say you dont want the US to occupy the country, only give it to the resistence. What is it that make you so sure they are any better?

I am Pro-American

There is no alternative, and i'm really disappointed to see so many anti-war. Being pro-war doesn't mean genocide or attacking the innocents... what it does mean is finally taking action. Being anti-war is cowardice, and is allowing these terrorists acts to perpetuate.

Agreed, innocent people have been murdered.

I'm not much on "debate" but think about this...

War? Not the answer. It absolutely sickens me how Bush has responded to all this. In fact, it's sickened me how many Americans have responded to this -

In what respect? Is it the way he has done his best to protect and unify the American people after the attack that bothers you (your friend) or the way that he has been it contact with leaders from all over the world gathering support to hunt down the people that killed innocent Americans. It's a real bitch how exterminating these terrorist would make the world a better place for everyone isn't it. Maybe it's the way that he and the American people have supported the people of NY and Washington making all the resources of our country available to them. I hate it when they do that.

What sickens you about the way Americans have responded to there husbands, wives, sons and daughters being murdered? Is it the way they grieve? The way they tell there children that dad isn't coming home? Listen, I know you are probably speaking of those that are advocating solutions that are way out of line but my point is this. People are hurting and emotions are high and things are said in anger because of the loss. I do not believe that our country or the vast majority of American citizens will act in an irrational manner nor do I advocate it. It is truly my earnest desire though that those people that have lost loved ones will see justice.

The bottom line is this, we never asked for this tragedy to occur nor did we deserve it as some would like to mantain. There is nothing that America or any nation for that matter could ever do that would ever justify the senseless murder of its' citizenry. Cowards and criminals murdered innocent people and justice must be served. Not just for America and it's citizens but for every peace loving nation and people in the world.

Yes this is revenge. We've technically been at war with these terrorist groups for about 10 years when they called for the destruction of all Americans (both civilians and military) and attacked several targets. We thought we could take the high road and not engage them, just roll with the punches. Look where we are now. Just imagine the results if these groups ever got their hands on chemical, biological, or heaven-forbid nuclear weapons. We must strike at those who caused this and similar groups, not only for retaliation, but to insure the safety of our future.

For the record, let me state that I agree with everything Moralpanic has stated. The fact that we have people unwilling to take a stand even when thousands of innocents were murdered frightens me. Right now I'm in grad. school, but if we get to a point where my country needs me to fight for this cause, then I'm volunteering myself and won't even wait to be drafted. I recognize that these terrorists consider all Americans their enemy. They do not care if you wear a military uniform or not. If I'm a target to terrorists no matter what I do, then by God I'm definitely going to fight back.

Can anyone tell me why we really do support Israel to the extent that we do year after year?

Because for decades, the Soviets were providing the Palestinians and the arab nations (ie Iraq and Iran, who would like nothing better than to wipe out Jerusalem) around Israel with arms... so the US balanced that by supporting Israel. When the Soviets ended, the US kept continuing with the support.

Did you know that they took advantage of this event to roll in force into Jerico right now with tanks?

Yes, Israelis tank rolled into Jerico, but did they level the place or massacre everybody? But from what i've read, it was in response to an attack by Palestinians earlier. Unlike the US, which has ignored and turned their cheek on attack after attack after attack, Israel has a hardline policy in which they retaliate after every attack.

But why does it matter what Israel does? The problem here is that the US was attacked by terrorists.

Isn't it possible that the foreign policies past administrations left us with might bear some scruitiny

If you're trying to lessen the hate of your people, the last thing that's going to help is directing the blame of this attack on the people who were just attacked. If you're so worried of Israel occupying a town now, how about the world leave the Middle East alone, and let them handle their problems... what do you think the results would be? I'll guess that Israel would kill off the Palestinians and every other nation that is an enemy of theirs within 10 years.

This act of total waste of human life must be avenged !!!!!!!!!! If war must be done then lets get to it !!
