Draft age is 18 - 34. There will probably not be a draft but if there is, the last one was based on lottery. They draw a birthday and if your birthday is selected you have a certain amount of time to sign up. I would say if you know that you will get drafted you'd better go sign up and pick the job you want. If you are drafted you will be infantry(grunt).

If there is a draft I would pack up my bags and move to Australia, hahah, I won't die for Bush/Cheney/Rumsfield, they can send their own sons and daughters to the war.

We would only need a draft if we needed a lot of troops. I believe that we have enough people and technology to win this war.

Lately I've seen many threads about draft in various forums,
I'm in agreement with you that we are not going to institute draft anytime soon.
I've been in military, and I work very closely with military (NAVAIR, DARPA, ONR)
right now. Whenever I have a meeting with senior military reps from these organizations,
we talk about current military state and not one ever stated that the draft will occur,
nor do they desire draft. These officers want volunteers rather than forcing people
to do something they don't want to, it will be a major headache for military leaders to deal with,
and lot of these draftees will fail miserably.

Actually, that's not true. It's 18-25. When you turn 26, you are no longer eligible for the draft.

That would depends on availability of desired age group.
If draft age group is depleted for whatever reason,
then the government have to seek outside of desired age group
to meet the desired manpower.

That is not stated in the bylaws. Of course they would look to other resources if every 18-25 year old male were killed. That's like saying women could be drafted if every man were depleted. There has never been a case in history when every 18-25 year old male was killed in battle. So until that happens, everyone over 26 is safe from being drafted.

The last draft ended in 1973 as U.S. troops were leaving Vietnam. Draft registration was suspended in April 1975, but resumed by President Carter in 1980 following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. As of October, 11.1 million men between the ages of 18-25 were registered, according to the Selective Service System.

Since the end of the civilian draft, men aged 18 to 25 have been required to register with the Selective Service System, which would be activated during a national emergency.

In a draft ? which can only occur with Congressional approval ? 20-year-olds would be the first called, then those who are 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25. Eighteen and 19-year-olds would "probably not be drafted," the agency says.

During the Vietnam War, the draft was criticized for being unfair, as wealthy whites avoided combat service by getting college deferments.

The military now has about 1.4 million active duty service personnel and 1.3 million reservists, a smaller force than during the Cold War

I'd gladly go if called. I will be 30 in May though so doubt if I will be drafted.

I was of draft age during Nam.
I didn't support the war.
I DID serve though, but I was USMC airwing and never left the states.
This time however, I think we need to "remove" Sadam Insane

I support the war, and I'm 100% draftable. I took my deer at 600 yards this year, I'm sure an Iraqi wouldn't be much harder. :D

I know many people who do not support this war as it stands right now. But if drafted they would do their duty to the best of their abilities.

As for you, lupy, you can get the hell out right now. I'll even send $10 to help pay for your plane ticket.

I know one thing for sure, that is you won't be missed :p

Enjoy the sand and 90 degree dry heat, and enjoy fighting a meaningless war for your beloved president!

All I'm saying is that the realm of possibility exists, even though it is far fetched.
Nothing is cut and dried, especially with so many countries possessing weapons of mass destruction and nukes.

Please do send me the $10, since you live in Minneapolis as well, perhaps I should meet you somewhere to thank you!

Doesn't matter at all to me. I'm 20 and can't join because of a medical condition even though I wanted to go enlist a few years ago.

The Aussies would step on your neck in about 10 seconds. They have a dog in the hunt as well.
