My parents both have masters degrees, my dad was pretty close to his Ph.D. before he stopped. I make more money than each of my parents, my wife makes more money than my mom. My parents are in education, my wife and I are in computers. 🙂

Money isn't everything though. They're very happy doing what they're doing. They could make more if they worked at a different school (they work at a small private school), my dad could make more if he finished up his Ph.D., but they both like what they're doing.

Just wondering how we compare to our parents.
I think the trend will be that kids will become more successful since the kids will have better education and opportunities than the parents.
That is, unless your parents are a successful business owner or big shot CEO.
Kids of the ultra rich usually tend to be snobby brats that grub off their parents for life.

*If you have a higher degree than one parent but lower than the other, chose No (you do not have a higher degree than your parents; one of your parents still has a higher degree than you do).

**If your parents are retired, calculate their salary of their highest paid position.
**Those with single parents or only one parent working, use 'average' and not 'combined'

I am a bit disturbed that you seem to equate financial gain with 'success' in life, but I'll let it pass for the sake of argument.

No need to be disturbed.
I personally do not equate finance to success, but our society does.
That's why my poll has 3 separate questions for education, finance and overall feeling of success.

Furthermore, success != happiness, IMO
There's different kinds of success, such as financial, relationships, corporate.
I would rather have a good balance of everything than excel financially.
i.e. happily married and comfortable, rather than being a CEO or doctor loaded with cash and a big house but in a miserable marriage.
