Poll: Are you less likely to purchase a PS3 now that FFXIII is no longer an exclusive title in the US?

For me, I think this is a rather large deal breaker unless the PS3 can secure exclusive titles concerning other JRPGs and Strategy RPGs. That's all I play on a console, so between the turn of events with Backwards Compatibility and this, I think I'll probably pass. Will most likely get a cheaper BluRay player down the road and eventually a 360.

No impact for me. I only have a Wii right now, but I'm going to pickup a PS3 for a few games, and to use as a Blu-ray player.

Square Enix, as well as some other companies, has almost completely abandoned the PS3, it seems.

I got a PS3 because I expected it to bring in a similar cast of games as the PS2. However, the PS3 has gotten almost no JRPGs, which the Xbox 360 on the other hand has gotten tons, such as Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey, Star Ocean 4, Infinite Undiscovery, Tales of Vesperia, and now FFXIII.

Pretty sad boat for the PS3.

Reasons to buy a PS3 in order of my importance:

Plays Blu-Rays
Plays Final Fantasy Games
Plays other JRPGs

As you can see the bottom two motivators are quickly fading away and if Xbox360 suddenly comes up with a Blu-ray drive my motivation goes very close to zero.

Already own a PS3 but I was not really looking forward to FF13 too much anyways. I'm more excited with Disgaea 3 coming out next month for the system next month. Best SJRPG series out there imo.

Have one, dont care.. Somewhat easier for me to say being I have a 360 as well though..

I just dislike exclusives period. As a buisness model, they seem to *attempt to* maximise benifit of the game developers and console manufacturers while giving consumers the short end of the stick. I feel the same way about the NFL - Directv, NFL - EA, deals etc.

*This of course excludes games that are "exclusive" for hardware reasons ( IE I have no problem with not trying to port MGS4 for the wii etc )

It doesn't have any bearing on me buying it, but one of my friends might have found yet another reason he isn't interested in the PS3.

If I didn't already have one, it probably would have affected my decision significantly. The only games I play on my PS3 are exclusives, and FF XIII was a big exclusive that I would have bought. I don't regret having it now that I know FF XIII will be cross-platform, because it's still a great Blu-ray player and upscaling DVD player.

One way or another I would have ended up with a PS3, but I probably would have waited until they're < $200 instead of the $320 that I paid.

I hate Final Fantasy so... no. Might eventually get a PS3, might not, but the exclusivity of Final Fantasy games is perhaps the one piece of gaming news that is less important to me than all others.

Still have GoW3 and LBP to look forward to along with a host of other franchises.

It didn't change a thing for me. Of course, I wasn't looking to buy one in the first place. I need to buy a HDTV before I need a blu-ray player which is really the only reason I'd buy one right now. The last FF game I bought was 9 and I only played maybe 10 hours of it.

Bought my PS3 to play Blu-Ray movies and GT5. If there's a cross platform game, I would buy it on PS3. I don't play FPS games, I'm not into cybering w/ 12 year old boys on Live, and I don't like X360's reliability. /shrug Besides, PS3 looks dead sexy compared to the X360.

*looks at MGS4*

Yeah, not really, I have one other big reason to want a PS3 :)

To be honest, I don't think this will hurt Sony so much, I mean, they are still getting the game and isn't it still an exclusive in Japan? That will only help Sony further in their homeland

Although Final Fantasy XIII will be mine on the PS3.

Maybe i'm missing something, but how does a game being non-exclusive cause one to dislike a system? I could see if it was exclusive for a system other than what you owned, that makes sense to me; But I'm not sure I understand why non-exclusives matter.

This had more of an impact on my decision to put off purchasing a PS3.

I wanted it to play Blu-Rays, but after building one BRD/HD DVD capable computer and in the process of building another, I'll just have to wait and see what the "must have" games for me will be. Most likely GT5, even though it'll have 4386 Skylines and only 153 other cars.

its because this is a pointless thread with a pointless poll. youre not missing anything. if a person didnt have a ps3 but had an x360 and was going to buy a ps3 because of ffxiii, then yes, they are probably less likely to buy one now that they can just get the game for x360. might as well be a poll on if water is wet.

Yeah, the only people who see exclusivity as a good thing are fanboys. There are many cases where bringing a game to too many platforms at once ends up hurting it because compromises are made, but as long as care is given to creating a consistent and high-quality experience, there's no problem with cross-platform titles.

So they're pretty much just used by fanboys to thumb their noses at each other.

I have a PS3, and agree with this guy.

I am not as big into consoles as most here, but it seems to me that the Xbox 360 and PS3 are neck and neck for value, from a gaming perspective (after you add wireless to the 360). If you just want to play non-networked games - you don't care about wireless capability, Blu-Ray doesn't matter, and you don't need much disk space, then the $299 Xbox 360 package is for you. If Blu-Ray is a significant part of the decision, then the PS3 is a much better value for you.

I can't see one game's exclusivity changing that analysis.
