so i thot, y not just do it myself? if i screwed up the board its no big deal. i had the tools so i cut and soldered. if u look closely its not the prettiest thing but it lets me sleep in peace at night knowing i overcame the F***ing onboard onslaught. Damn mobo companies are stupid as hell. all they care about it selling to the corporates...
So catering to 95% of the market is stupid?
Personally, as long as the onboard components are 'good enough' and don't use up too many CPU cycles, then I'm happy with it. Also, don't forget that most boards have a 'light' version that only has onboard USB and AC '97 sound (blegh). I think Abit has a board that has no onboard components except about 8 USB ports. No sound, no RAID, no NIC, no Firewire, just a boatload of USB ports. But if you wan't a
really bare board, get an an ancient one.

I have some boards laying around that have an onboard AT keyboard jack. Period. You have to stick in a freakin' mouse card. (or, more accurately, an I/O card including mouse, parralel, serial and IDE ports (yes, the board doesn't even have onboard IDE))
