If I was dead, what the hell would I care about my organs? I obviously wouldn't need them anymore.

No, and I won't be, either. Ever. I'm not risking some dumbass doctor not working as hard to save my life if two people need kidneys and someone else needs a liver and a heart.

While I share your same frustration regarding issues like the one you described, you still should support the country you live in. If you don't like it, move to another one like that Commie bastard Johnny Depp.

Like the doctor would know if you were even a match for someone if he was working on you in the ER or something like that.

In that case, we're all screwed, because someone always needs organs.

Yes, actually, they would. If I were an organ donor, all my info would be listed on my medical records. Some states, I believe, will have things like blood type listed on the driver's license.

Well, I won't be one to give mine away. :)

I have no idea why this myth is so wide spread.

Yet, curiously, not a single person can come up with a verifiable case of this happening.

Why?

In most, if not all cases, the fact that the patient is an organ donor is not known until AFTER everything else has been done, and all hope is lost.

And even if you have your license marked, your next of kin must still OK donation.

Moreover, the organs go on a donation list, and who gets the organs are not decided by one doctor, or hospital. In fact, rarely, if ever, do organs donated in one hospital go to another patient in that same hospital.

Folks, stop with the urban legends and deal with reality: Tens of thousands of innocent, good people die each year waiting for organs. One of them may be you someday.

OK, and if you ever become ill or injured and need an organ, will you refuse one?

Here's a fair rule: Only organ donors and people unable to donate because of disease can be organ receipeients. People who refuse to donate cannot receive donated organs.

So... you'll be having an autopsy?
Needless to say, I am very *ahem* amused (no pun intended) at Amused's excellent analysis of the structure of the grammar in that sentence. ;)

:D

Gotta love those double negatives.

I like that rule. Email it to your mayor or senator or whoever can propose that as a bill. :)

No problem with that.

Horses are already lined up for my organ when I die. They have a transplant team on 24 hour call in Kentucky!

I didn't know they cared that much about miniature ponies! That's very noble of you to "remember the little guys" so to speak.

The Keebler Elves are surprisingly well-endowed. Apparently, only the cookies are bite-sized.
And before you bring it up: Yes, I speak from experience.
