Donating blood has begun to bother me. I like the idea of helping people, like a policeman shot in the line of duty. I dont like the idea that the criminal that shot the policeman may get my blood, and it might save his life.

lol, worst logic ever! You won't do something to help a normal person b/c of the slight chance it might go to a bad person! OMG! Odds are it will go to a good person.

Yes, I'm designated as an organ donor and my loved ones know my wishes.

I donate blood - with time off for pregnancies/nursing and occasional prescriptions (they won't let you donate then), I recently got my 4 gallon pin - and that's just since I moved to this location. I'm registered for marrow donation too.

If my minor children died I would choose to donate their organs. After all, if my children needed it, I would want organs to be available for them.

It seems like a "golden rule" sort of thing to me. If you want organs to be available for you or your loved ones, you should be willing to have them used from you or your loved ones.

YES! I have no use for them if I die. Why not give somebody else a chance to live.

OK, let's clear something up here...

If you check "yes" as an organ donor, your body will NOT be used for experiments unless there is no one to claim it.

NOT ONCE have I had a relative or friend die who was an organ donor, and their body not returned in a timely manner to the family for proper burial after harvesting.

In fact, they will usually release the body within 24 hours.

So let's STOP with the bullsh!t horror stories, OK?

There is no excuse for not being an organ donor... unless you have an incurable communicable disease.

In Judaism, you must be buried with all your organs. So no, I am not an organ donor, and if I can help it, I won't being having no autopsy either.

No way will I donate organs.

If I get in a car wreck and am seriously but not fatally injured and some rich or powerful guy like Bill Gates needed a heart/lung transplant you better believe those doctors would figure a way to harvest my healthy organs.

Go to China and buy your bodyparts like everybody else!

:D

So... you'll be having an autopsy?

No. We had a HORRIFYINGLY bad experience with that. I don't want to expose my loved ones to the possibility of something else awful happening at the time of my death. That assumes that they'll be sad and miss me, of course.

No, I won't go into details - too disgusting. But the idea that it's all good and sweet and nice, and that you'll definately be helping someone else, is wrong.

Maybe someday they'll clean up the business, and I'll change my mind.

When did the world turn so black and white? It's a million shades of grey. The cop might beat his wife and children and the guy he shot might have been an innocent victim who he planted a gun on to keep from getting in trouble. These things happen.

Would you agree that tens of thousands of people's lives are saved each year by donated organs? Why would you discourage a practice that makes this possible?

One incident is going to ruin all that?

I'm really curious as to what happened. In all the cases I've witnessed, it went smoothly.

In response to Mellow and Crazyfool.

It is simple, if they want my organs, they have to get them on my terms. That means not giving them to criminals (felons), or ILLEGAL aliens.
I hope they make a notation on donor cards for this, I dont think I am the only one that feels this way. You can be disqualified for any number of reasons, medical and lifestyle already.

While I still dont like the idea that my blood can be used for criminals, at least my blood is a renewable resource, so long as I live.

I'm a donor. I'm really surprised by the amount of no responses. Since I can?t see a logical reason not to be one, I thought yes votes would outnumber no votes by a lot more.

im not 18.... cant sign up yet. When I turn 18 I will.

You can become a donor in one simple way: Tell your parents that if you should, ahem, pass, that you would like your organs donated. They have the say in that matter before you are 18.

Did it have something to do with a trip to the eastern region, a kidney, a bathtub full of ice, and a note?

I think I read a true story on the internet about something like that. ;)

I'm an organ donor.

I have a 20 year old Baldwin sitting in my basement if anyone wants it. It's an electronic one and does a few different instuments. The keyboard is still in good condition. Let me know if you know where I can donate it.

No. By not donating my organs all the people who would have gotten my organs, had I donated them, will now die themselves and their organs will be available for transplant. So by not donating mine, the organ pool will show a net increase.

Needless to say, I am very *ahem* amused (no pun intended) at Amused's excellent analysis of the structure of the grammar in that sentence. ;)
