just a question for the stay at home parents... how do you buy things for yourself? do you have joint checking and savings accounts, or does your spouse give you an allowance?

Daycare sucks. We dealt with that for a short time, early in our first son's life. Working out a way to avoid daycare was the best thing we ever did. :)

Dude, that is sweet. How did you work that out with..your work? :D

My wife and I are extremely proud parents of a beautiful two year old girl and have done everything possible to be stay at home parents. I work from 2 am to around 11-12pm and then I race home and she races off to work from 1-7 pm . We get the best of both worlds: Two paychecks coming in and we both spend an equal amount of time with her. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't hesitate for a second.

I do all of the grocery shopping on the weekends. I also do all of the cooking and yard/ house/vehicle maintainence. My wife does all of the laundry and cleaning inside the house. It works great for us.

My little girl turned two in May and she can already recognize every letter of the alphabet without any prompting and she has just learned her full name, address, city ,state etc. You cannot get these moments back and it would be so rough on me if some teenaged babysitter told me what my daughters first words were.

Peace

well whats the difference between a women staying at home and a guy?

It has been proven kids do better with a parent staying home.

I am a stay at home dad. My wife has a good job and does not want to stay home. While i had a good job i was sick of the crap at work. We both wanted one of us to stay home or both.

while i do stay home by no means do i not contribute to the house. Besides raising my daughter i do all the cleaning, cooking, work that needs to be done around the house, etc. while i dont have a 40 hour week job i work around the house as much as i worked at my job.

I love you, waggy.

One of the coaches I work with took 18 month leaves of absences for each of his little girls. Now they are both old enough to come to school with him each day. It just so happens that his wife makes $$$ as a business woman, while he makes less but has more freedom to raise a family.

He has the utmost admiration and respect of his fellow teachers and the families in our community! And the way his little girls look at him, you KNOW that they think their daddy is the bestest man in the whole wide world.

Of course we have a joint checking account - we're married. My money is hers; her money is mine.

If the money is in the budget, she can buy whatever she wants, up to the limit of the budget. If there's $100 in the clothing budget, she can spend every penny if she wants.
