Poll: Are you a stay at home dad or mom?

What kind of guy can feel ok about not bringing home money when he has kids?

My wife is a stay-at-home mom. It beats the hell out of dumping a kid off at a daycare, where there are 8 children attempting to get the attention of one caretaker. At home, my wife devotes all of her time paying attention to our son, teaching him, and playing with him. He's been reading letters and numbers since he was one-and-a-half. Plus, not only is my son very happy, my wife is very happy. We both feel that it is absolutely worth the 50+% reduction in income.

I stay at home during the day, and go to school full time at night. Looking for a job since I graduate on August 7th.

There isn't anything wrong with either parent staying home with the kids. The difference in the quality of care between daycares and having a parent is immeasurable. Since women often have great careers in this day and age, sometimes dads get the priviledge of staying home :)

I was for many years.

During that time, I worked odd jobs (including writing articles, babysitting, and cleaning houses) and I became very adept at economizing. It would not have been worth it for me to go to work and stick the kids in day care. That and I really like kids... especially my own little buggers.

During that time, I was very active as a volunteer at my children's schools. I even took a job as a teacher's aide when my two oldest were at the same school (one in 5th, one in K). I was planning to get a teaching job after that, but then I became pregnant with my son and had to stay home for four more years. :D Since my kids are all 6 years apart, it's been interesting. I like to joke that every time I sent one off to K, I got pregnant with another, until we figured out what was causing them.

Now they are all school age and I work as a teacher at my neighborhood school. I'm very happy to have done things this way.

Stay at home dad here

I dropped my 42k/yr job in a town where a starter home starts at 120K to move to a town where my wife can make 52k/yr and a pretty decent pad can be bought for that much

but dammit, milk costs 30c more a gallon here :|

EDIT: 3 kids...1, 2, & 4 (not their names, their ages). Not worth the wage and pain for me to work here

I guess I qualify for that status too: I work from home. However, I try (not always successfully) to keep myself in my office so I stay productive. The "commute" is great, though: I walk out my office door into my son's outstretched arms.

My wife works the front half of the week, and I work the back half of the week.

Daycare sucks. We dealt with that for a short time, early in our first son's life. Working out a way to avoid daycare was the best thing we ever did. :)
