yeah but what are some gains by doing that? i can read webpages just fine with 1280x1024 and most of my wallpapers are <1600x1200. why would i want it any bigger?

Many programs run much better on high dpi's, photoshop for one example. You just have a lot more space to work with.
Also my monitor looks a lot sharper at 1600x1200 than at 1280x1024.

Yes 1280x1024 is great for webpages, and is probably better than 1600x1200+, but I don't think many people would buy a 21" just to read webpages.

well for me its 60-70% anime viewing, i dunno a thing about photoshop and i feel i have more than sufficient workspace on the desktop 😛

on average yea. u know those library/school monitors running at default 800x600@60hz on crts so old they are faded to half brightness etc. lcd is more idiot proof.

sit in front of a CRT all day long at work, and often a lot at home.. never a problem... 85Hz or more and it's all good.
I love my Samsung CRT.

my 900nf @1280x960 @109.85hz on BNC > lcds in the same price range.

not that its a relevent or fair comparison but my pixel clock is almost 200Mhz, i don't think DVI can go that high

I agree that LCD's are much easier on the eyes than a CRT is.

Also it has a smaller footprint that a CRT does, you can reclaim a lot of desktop space.

Yeah there are just tons of hi-res LCDs out there... 😕

Guess you're out of touch with the laptop scene then, at least the ones that you can configure to order, vs just buying the one with a red tag on the shelf of a store.

After using an LCD at work, I have come to the conclusion that I prefer a CRT. LCDs are just... different, especially when scrolling or moving fast. Plus, they seem harsher.

Cheap crt's look bad or if they are set to crappy refresh rates.

I have had 'good' quality crt's that I have set the refresh rates to 85Hz min and usually run 100Hz. No problems for me.

My lcd runs great. Text is sharper on the lcd but it does blur a bit when gaming.

My CRT at work is making me blind. I swear my eye-sight is worse and I get headaches at work.

When go home to my LCDs it's MUCH easier on my eyes. And no, my CRT at work isn't at 60Hz, it's at 85Hz which is the highest it'll go 🙁

85Hz AND OVER IS A MUST FOR CRTs

Also raising or lowering the resolution can help too.

A good way guideline is.

15" 800x600 @ 85Hz
17" 1024x768 @ 85Hz
19" 1280x1024 @ 85Hz
21" 1600x1200 @ 85Hz

right now, I'm on a LCD in my school and it's bothering my eyes so I'm gonna have to go.

1600x1200 on a 15" laptop LCD is awesome.

I MUCH prefer it to any CRT i've got, the best is a 19" that will do 1280x960 @ 75Hz

Confused

Better make that 19" 1280x960 instead, to maintain the proper aspect ratio.
