Freakin' cool movie! Very weird, not Moulin Rouge weird, but more Stanley Kubrick weird.

The aliens (I swear their aliens, not robots) at the end were dumb looking though...

Want to get me a "Teddy"

Fixed the poll....hehe

They weren't aliens, are you a complete moron??!?!? Hehehe.

Anyway, it was pretty good up until everything that happened after he jumped in the water... I don't know what the hell he was thinking when he wrote that.

If he had just died it would have been a perfect tragedy.

It was good, but the end it just died. I mean nothing happened for so long.
Those were robots btw :).

You should really add an option to say no on your poll lol.

I saw it, it was pretty cool. Those were mecha's? Are you sure? I thought that they were aliens that came from some other world looking for the meaning of existance of life, and when they got here they discovered that humans were extinct

Nope, because that Haley Joel Osmet kid sucks at acting, he ruined Sixth Sense and Pay It Forward. So, I'm not going to see A.I. soley for the fact that the queer kid is in it. I heard that most reviewers thought it sucked too.

Everytime that kid did that whisper thing he does in EVERY DAMN MOVIE he's in, I expected his next line to be "I see dead people".

I thought he made Sixth Sense. As for pay it forward, the movie looked kind of dumb, I never saw it. I think he's extremely talented. Hollywood obviously doesn't think he sucks. And all the reviews I have read say that his acting is wonderful. I guess that's your opinion though.

Doh! Now I want to go back and watch it. I went to watch it with a very pretty female friend of mine, but electricity went out during the beginning so we bounced. I was more pissed off about not being able to chill with her more than about not finishing the movie. Wasn't going to go back to watch it, but now I'm curious...

They were advanced robots, not aliens :)

Anyway, this movie was almost great. It had a couple of bad points that was its downfall.

They're robots. One of them tells "David" that "our race as evolved..." or something like this at the end before they bring his mother back.

Do a search, there were at least 2 of them a few days ago, and many people said what they thought about it. I think it was a good movie, but the end is just horrible. It went downwards after the part where he jumps into the water from the building.

I don't know where you guys got that they were mechas. I don't remember anything where it said that theywere robots. I'll admit it's justas likely that they could be robots as that they could be aliens. Also I liked the ending, even though I kept thinking it was ending, and then it didn't.

How do people know that they weren't aliens?

If you look at them closely, they kind of look like they have super advanced circuitry on the inside. When they found David they described him as "one of the originals, he encountered the humans before they went extinct" which to me implied that these beings evolved from the mechas.

Since they evolved from the mechas, they were compatible with David and able to "read" David's memories (sort of like how all modern computers know the TCP/IP stack) and "reactivate" him. When they were "reading" David's memories you can see the images flashing in their heads -- as if they were machines flashing images on a monitor.

There was also foreshadowing that mechas would one day inherit the earth. Gigolo Joe said that they would be around when the humans were long gone. Also, when David first appear, the camera made him look almost like an alien as he entered the house.

I thought this movie was beautiful. It was thought provoking and very emotional for me. The ending was perfect. BTW, from reading comments from the internet and Kubrick's early scripts, this was pretty much the ending that Kubrick would have done -- so the criticism that Spielberg ruined the ending was pretty unjustified.

yup, the only reason people say aliens is because they don't think it through. The ship does scream starwars styling, and the flight through the trench seems very starwars deathstar like. thats probably it.

how likely is it that they would be aliens? they have the shape of a sharp nose, eye sockets and mouth when seen in profile. They are bipedal..parralel evolution of aliens into forms so close to human is beyond unlikely, even less likely they would find us.

they network, project images on their faces= robots

ai=movie about robots

you see them skimming the surface, not flying down from space

they seem to have built structures in the trenches or whatever.

even joe what do you know can see that robots will outlast the humans....and he was a generation older then david.

imagine the capabilities of mature adult robots based on davids technology, then base their evolution on something like moores law over 2000years. their evolution would definetly not be slow as biological evolution.

they only want david to be happy...something you would want for your ancestors, not so strongly for aliens:p

they refer to david as one of the last robots to live with humans.

their bodies are unlikely to be biological, just look at them, you need super lightweight super strong materials to be practical in that shape.

they know how to speak english:p

totally compatible with david...

one of the robots explains to david about their search for the human spirit/meaning of life etc. Aliens would not be searching for the meaning of life through primitive aliens:p He also says someting about humans looked to god.. and they to humans.. ack my memory is wack.. its late:(

the wierd stick figures at the end may not have been aliens but why did spielberg not
vary their forms from the same beings he used in 'close encounters of the third kind' ?

they're virtually identical. maybe the ones in 'close encounters' are more elongated,
so these in 'ai' could be seen as the midget form of the same entity.

if you look at his vision of world devastation through cataclysmic global warming,
then perhaps the humans didn't survive the self-created environmental destruction
and the ruined planet rendered inhospitable to any native borne life was rebuilt
by an alien civilization ? whatever.
