I'm still using 6.4.09.1109 that came with Win2k because 7 sucked.

What do you guys think of it?

I don't think it's that bad. At first I hated it but then it started growing on me.

I will often play cd's while at my computer. Media Player 7 = very, very bad for playing cd's. The simple cd player works much better. I was also somewhat annoyed at how it proclaimed itself the default app for virtually every multimedia file that exists on my drive.

I thought the pseudo-3d stuff was kind of neat, the wma formats in general pretty nice sounding, but the GUI is completely, totally clunky and weird and way way way toooo big. I can't believe they'd put something that ugly out. Is it possible to keep/find an older version that still plays everything? Or to rip out the goofy interface and replace it with something else? :)

And oh about the CD Player, I think the thing is sampling the data off of the CD and playing through the WAV channels (whatever........ it is called) so it can alter the music as it comes through. Totally butchers the music sometimes, gets completely confused if it tries to read off of a cd-rw disc. Good, I suppose if you don't know how to hook the cdplayer up to the sound card.

And it's also nasty since it's so huge and takes 10-20 seconds (I think) to start on my machine, which is ridiculous if all I'm doing is trying to preview a little .wav file or something...

WMP7 is OK by me. I have it set up as my default CD player. I like it better than the regular WinBlows CD player because it automatically gives me all the info (song names, times, etc.) without having to program it in. You can easily jump onto the net for more artist info too. I use RealJukebox for MP3's though. It's tough to decide because all the top programs have their pros and cons. Here's a link to a deathmatch of the top three. media players tests

I just use winamp and my custom skin for everything. I think version 7 is a memory hog and it takes too long to load.. winamp is about 1/2 a second. but it doesn't play movies so thats something else..

Not even WMP7 with the "classic" skin is good. Thank gawd it dosen't come standard with Win2k.

Dreadful. It stayed on my system about 15 minutes. Way too bloated. I hate all this fancy graphics bullshit. Just play the damn file! :)

I just think it's extremely slow. I have a few friends that use WMP 7 instead of napster for playing Mp3's. I use WMP 6.4 just b/c it's faster.

I have to agree wmp7 sucks ass... installed it on my win2k and during the first few attempts to try to play a mpeg movie file it just stalled and blue screened my system. Eventually the problem fixed itself.. no clue how, but I still like 6.4 better.

I've had no trouble using WMP7 so far...I like the extra features, but agree that the interface can be improved much.

Winblows Media Player 7 = CRAP
The one thing that pisses me off is what I call Microsoft Imperialism where it takes over everything you have and makes itself the default. Luckly Winamp has this thing on it that will stop other programs from making themself the default.
