Just curious to see what you folks are surfing with. I'd be surprised if even half of you folks are still on dial-up!

If you're still on 56k dial-up at home and paying more than $4.95/mo you're paying too much.

$8 setup fee, $4.95/mo

Access4Less.net
Good deal except when you want to cancel your service. Then access4less act like a$$holes, won't respond to your emails for cancellation and charge you $5 if you want to talk to someone just to cancel. :|

Anyways, DSL here.

Cable: never been available, never will be.
DSL: Only option is IDSL (DSL over ISDN), which is 144/144, $300 setup, $100/mo.
Satallite: High lag, strict terms of use, $300 setup+$70/mo or $100/mo
Dialup: 26.4k (on a good day), $32 between ISP and phone line.
IDSN: per minute charges, but unlike IDSL you can use voice over it. Still expensive and slow.

I _CAN_ get cheap broadband if I want to pay the $250,000 setup fee that is involved in buying a house where it's available.

Oh, here's a fun fact:
My distance from the CO according to DSL reports goes up about 1000 feet per month. When I first started checking it it was 18,000 feet. And now it's almost 40,000. Not sure why the hell that's happening, but it might have to do with the fact that we are running out of good lines in our neighborhood and they're passing the bad lines around to whoever hasn't complained in a while.

Edit:
Many places in my area (my sister and uncle are examples) only get 14.4k. At those speeds even the small flash intros take in upwards of an hour.
