So which Computer here is more reliable and would you change any parts in it and explain why. budget is $1,500

Intel Final $50 over budget
VS
AMD FINAL

Edit: No Overclocking everything will be stock its going to a friend that will use the comp for some games and email.

Intel Mobo Updated
Intel Ram Upgraded

Updated AMD mobo
AMD:Fixed Missing Speakers

Reliability rarely has anything to do with Intel or AMD.

It might help if you explain what you are using the PC for, if you want to OC, etc.

At stock settings, the C2D system you've configured will be slightly faster.

If you were to switch out a number of those components for OC friendly ones, then C2D becomes the far better choice.

For "some games and email"? Define "some games". There's quite a bit of difference in the requirements for FEAR than Starcaft and C&C Red Alert.

Ya I know so thats why i got the 7600gt in there. HE has dial up and on SAT comcast is coming to install his cable modem so maybe his kids will start playing games.
He also wants to keep this comp for 3 years so I think i may put the core 2 so when the quad core comes out he can use it

Did you just refer to yourself in 3rd person... 😕

anyways here are my sugessions - My vote was Intel:
I would spend 80 more bucks and change the video to x1900XT - muchos better
Optical - from liteon to NEC mush better reliability and media support

i voted Intel. reliability have nothing to do with the CPU but more with the motherboard/PSU. the intel system is going to be faster especially with a mild overclock.

Intel, but get a 965 chipset.

Any good mobos under $150 that have it?? why the 965 Chipset??

Most motherboards under $150 will have it. I suggest the gigabyte 965P-S3 or the Asus P5B-Deluxe.

well, if the games are graphically demanding (oblivion, FEAR, splinter cell: DA, etc), i'd recommend dropping an extra ~$40 and getting an ATI x1950pro... i personally like the c2d line of intel CPU's better than AMD x2 CPUs at the moment, but you'll probably see little difference in speed between the two systems at stock speeds. however, you do a disservice to yourself by getting a c2d cpu and not OCing it. a SUBSTANTIAL boost in speed is attainable essentially for free with those CPU's (even with stock HSF) esp if you get ddr2-800 for (a very small) extra cost...

Another vote for intel. Things I would change-

That PSU is very good, but I would save some money there and put it towards a different video card. I would use something like this one instead.
Get a better video card like the x1950 linked above or a 7900gt.

Voted Intel. If you end up getting the AMD system do everyone involved a favour and change the motherboard. The M2N-E is a flaming pile of poo.

See this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...&STARTPAGE=1&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear and I'm sure if you PM Inspire he would be more than willing to tell you everything that is wrong with it 😀

You really want to get a matched pair set of RAM that has 2 1GB modules in a single package. Getting two of the same 1GB sticks doesn't guarantee anything (they could be several revisions off).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...227089&ATT=20-227-089&CMP=OTC-d3alt1me

Considering you're nearly spending $300 on RAM anyway, it won't be hard to switch to a matched pair of 2x1GB.

Here's another vote for the X1950Pro. If you're not getting a DX10 card, at least get a nice midhigh-end DX9c card.

I still don't see why the Intel system is so much more expensive, considering the only differences are a mobo and a cpu (which are not that much more expensive). Perhaps its because you didn't add the monitor to your AMD system. The cost is around the same.

I'm going to refrain from voting. All other things being equal, with the exception of motherboard and CPU (obviously), your Intel platform will probably perform better, but not so much so that you might notice a significant difference. Power consumption is about the same (unless you wait for AMD's 65nm chips, which will undoubtedly be more expensive).

I suggest you consider the forum's recommendations. Otherwise, both systems look good.

well, I am going to print out both and let him choose. Scince most of you aproove the systems now.

Farmer: He wants CORSAIR he heard there good so..

thescreensavers:

And I would agree with him. You should choose a matched pair from Corsair:

Here, and really anything from this list here.

Save yourself the trouble, do NOT get separate sticks if you intend to use dual channel DDR2.
