POLL: Alcoholism...

just because you drink a lot doesn't make you an alcoholic.
alcoholism is a disease.
alcoholics HAVE to drink
and mostly drink alone.

I do know the ins and outs of alcoholism

i think moshquerade was just trying to clarify it for everyone...

with that said...it's way too common in my family 🙁

I don't think you will get much useful data with this poll. You should have separated the "know an alcoholic" from "are an alcoholic".

Im only interested in knowing if anyone is or knows to see how common it is in the US.

British spend an extortionate amount of their money on alcohol, and i have lived with one person all my life, who is an alcoholic.

I am one, but I make sure I don't drink alone and that I don't drink very often.

In that case, you are not an alcoholic.

Not necessarily. With enough self-discipline it is possible to keep alcoholism under control. Even people that go through AA and have been dry for decades are still considered alcoholics.

i drink whenever i have it, as much as i can before i get sick or run out, usually alone. luckily im 18 so i cant buy it for myself, and i have other things to worry about.

My father is an alcoholic. I hate it when he's drunk. He isn't ever violent but I feel really sorry for him. He self medicates himself for a lot of reasons.

They are considered as "Recovering Alcoholics".

If you can control your drinking, and do not suffer withdrawel symptoms, you are not an alcoholic.

My mum is an alcoholic.

Shes brought me up on her own, drunk, or rather ive brought myself up looking after her on my own, however you look at it.

Ive spent many nights in police cell's after she has started getting aggresive with me and i have defended myself by holding her back.

Because of the drink she bruises easily and for a while, the police believed i was the one attacking her 🙁
