I'm using the 3063's
win98se
kt133

None of the betas work for me as they mess up multimedia functions....

The only problems I have with the card are when I'm using the multimedia stuff. TV and recording work, it's usually when I play back a mpeg2 file I get random lock ups.

Just wondering how other AIW owners feel.

FYI: I posted to that thread before I started this one.

If I owned a Radeon as opposed to a Radeon AIW I would be more satisfied with the current drivers than I am.

All the beta's mess up the AIW mutimedia features, at least that has been my expierience.

I'm curious to find out what other AIW owners thoughts are.

Perhaps you could edit your not so helpful post.

My brother has been using the AIW Radeon and Win2k drivers 7072 (7073? something like that) and he has no complaints. He only watches TV and DVD though.

I after 3 formats last night due to virus attack, I finally got my AIW radeon working stable again under 7068 driver with my KT7(somehow the 7072 driver didnt work too well for me). I wouldn't recommend this card to anyone whos not experienced with computer hardwares, cuz the drivers are very buggy at the time. People who has problems with the card, should head over to Rage3d Forum for some help.

That's pretty cool....I couldn't get the 7068's to work with a KT chipset and win98SE....

That driver worked in games but I would drop like 50% of frames when recording with the ATI VCR.

Unfortunately the review sites are mostly biased and don't dare tell the truth about this card, I didn't believe it but it's obvious now, you have to learn truth the hard way. If I would have known then what I know now, I would have either gone for an Asus 7800 or a Hercules GF2 + Hauppauge WinTV. The Asus drivers were always solid.

I have serious issues with this card now. For the price we paid for this card and not have support for VfW or unified drivers, the card has been out 6 months and latest drivers are still based on the Rage128 core, someone should be put in jail for this. My 30 day return is up because it took so long to try to fix this card, and now for me to get my money back I have to scam this defective card onto some other poor unsuspecting goober, my conscience just won't let me do this to others. At best this card is worth $100, and even then, if you get it to work. Does this answer your question.

Sorry if I'm a little harsh but I paid some hard earn money for a card that doens't deliver the goods.

Well... mp2 recording still doesn't work for me and the TiVo functions weren't as fun or useful as I thought it would be... when I pause TV and replay... the display is screwed and sound is very loud..

SendTrash, that is weird man, if there is one thing that does work for me it's the MP2, mpeg, avi, divx and timeshift, timeshift does take a chunk of space though.

Taz just posted a re-install, and I agree with him. I find that depending on the install things seem to work better. Read Taz's post and here's mine.

This is my personal opinion and it has worked for me and others I have corresponded with.

Here's what I recommend.

Goto rage3d.com and download the latest drivers and read the Radeon Guide and specially the part about the "HyperZ in the Registry" you'll probably need to tweak those reg settings.

1. If you have an Asus A7V board, update your bios to 1005C or later.

Once the bios update done, hard boot and go directly into bios again. Reset the defaults, save and HARD boot again, goto bios and then modify your bios all you want. save and Hard boot again.

2. re-Download DX8 or DX8a, VIA 4-1 v4.28 (if you have a VIA chipset) and the 4.13.7072 or 5.13.3100 ATI drivers.
3. Uninstall all ATI components using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel
4. Locate the ATI Multimedia folder in C:\Program Files, and remove it
5. Do a Find Files and delete any ATI*.* files that you think should not be there.
6. Restart Windows (in VGA mode)

In this order.

7. If you have a VIA chipset board, Install the Via 4-in-1 v4.28 drivers from http://www.viatech.com/drivers
...IMPORTANT: make sur the AGP support is loaded in Standard mode and not Turbo
8. Install (or re-install) the latest version of DirectX (8.0) even if you already have it installed.
9. Install the latest ATI display drivers, AND do not restart or reboot your system.
...IMPORTANT: If you update your ATi drivers in the future remember to follow steps 9 and 10 again.
10. Search and locate ATIGART.exe (in the ATI/Gart dir) and rename it to OLDGART.exe
11. From the CD - Install the ATI Multimedia Centre ONLY, no drivers or VGART.
12. Restart the system, set your video defaults.
13. Do the reg tweaks recommended from Rage3D / Radeon guide. Reboot.

You can re-install the 4-1 after all this, In some cases I found this also helps.

For some weird reason, this setup seems to work better. I have experienced that if I did it this way it cleared a bunch of problems I was having and was able to play MP2 files no matter where they are located on the HD. Hope this helps.

after 2 days, of mucking with those stupid special drivers and their totally f'd up dvd software for win2k, i've finally gotten everything stable and working by using the retail september drivers and windvd (which has support for the radeon's dvd hardware).

NO! I can't do video capture without a lockup under Win98SE with my AIW Radeon :( I've tried many drivers... the TV Tuner also locks up after a minute or so under 98SE... it works JUST FINE under Win2K on the same system :(

On the other hand, every game I own RUNS FLAWLESSLY on this thing (under 98SE)! AWESOME :) Voyager: Elite force, Q3Arena, Gunman Chronicles, X:BOTF, X-Tension, Homeworld, Homeworld Catyclysm, MM8... not one glitch yet! I really like the display properties OpenGL and Direct3D adjustments... the 3056 drivers (out of the box) work fine for me here. Also RAdeon's ark is bitchin :)

Weird thing is, I can't tell the different with or WITHOUT the via AGP driver... just isntalling 98SE, then RAdeon drivers is exactly the same as installing 98SE, via 4in1, then Radeon drivers (recommended by VIA and Pauls kt7 faq). I've played with the bios settings (4x on/off, timming, VIO,etc..), running minimal installs, directx8 or not, sound card or not, updates to video for windows/media player, NOTHING I DO MAKES THE TV TUNER OR VIDEO CAPTURE WORK UNDER 98SE!!!! AHHHHH! Ok, I'm calm now...

Edit: BTW DVD playback is PERFECT on win98se :) It looks awesome out on my TV or on the monitor...

Jee Wizz, try putting your durong at 750 and see if that helps, just try it. I was running mine at 900 for the longest time and all of a sudden I was locking up I went to 850 and the lockups went away. and I run my system on RC5 24/7.

That was the first thing I tried.... but it has no affect. I used to run at 950mhz, but found a few stability problems... none so far at 800mhz (after 2 months). I just beat Gunman chronicles this weekend, start to finish, WITHOUT RESTARTING once! When not playing I just left it at the menu screen and turned off my monitor. QUit the game to check my e-mail and then re-ran it... ;) Now THAT'S stability! hehe I can run Seti@home indefinitely and I haven't had a single system crash/lockup or blue screen in two months (I've had a few apps give me GPFs or IPF errors, maybe 5 in the last two months, but then they quit nicely and don't destabelize my system). The problems I have only occure when using the Radeon's TV functions :( Also, if it were the overclocking of my chip, I should experience problmes in Win2k, which I don't. When I bought my board/cpu I used Cpustability.exe to make sure I was ok.... I found 800mhz worked best... though 950mhz would go awhile before showing a problem, which originally led me to think I could get away with it! :) Also, cooling is a HUGE factor... hence my Fong Kai case, Taisol heatsink, and two additional 80mm fans. I was at 41C last time I checked after playing quake3 (full load).

P.S. good memory is the key to a stable system... currently running an infineon 128mb pc133 cas2 and a stick of crucial 128mb pc133 cas2. The first thing you do with new memory is run benchmarks, diagnostics (Nortons or DocMemory), and heavy use apps (RC5 or Seti@home) to make sure you have good chips. If your system has good memory, a stable CPU and good drivers you should NEVER get blue screens or lock ups (Except when running beta drivers and software, heh).
