Young.

The old drive slow, so if you run into them or they into you, its probably less damage. But young go really fast which means any accident is a bad one.

that actually culturally depends where you drive. when i lived in california, the left lane was the fast lane. definitely. but i live in pennsylvania now and it's the passing lane.

Old drivers for sure. I've never had a close call with a young driver, but some 450 year old lady in a lead studabaker comes close to hitting me about once a week.

Once I was driving home from the store, and this really old woman with just one little cotton ball of hair on her head almost hit me. When she drove off, she was just staring at the sky with her mouth hanging open.

Freaky stuff, man.

Younger definitely because of that #1 cause of most accidents...
Excessive speed.
maybe a higher proportion of Operating Under The Influence/ While Impaired as well.

young drivers do not know what can happen in a serious accident yet, thus they are more incline to drive recklessly and speedy, whereas the older folks do not speed at all. They tend to drive real real slow in the fast lane, causing traffic jams etc....... Speed + youth = potential road hazard.

young people are stupid but they can act fast, old people are stupid AND slow

and when i say "act fast" i dont mean they drive fast, they can react to situations a little quicker

choose some combination of inexperience, stupidity, a feeling of immortality, speed, recklessness, a car with too much HP, and alcohol and you describe too many young drivers

i'm NOT saying all young drivers are like that, BTW, or that other age groups don't have problem drivers,
but the real question is: who's insurance is highest and why?

Older drivers may get into more accidents but young drivers get into worse accidents.

You don't find many 70 year olds drag racing.
Not to mention that older drivers usually drive much slower which is not necessarily
good, but its better than a young driver driving 60 in a 25.

Both.
Young drivers are overconfident but inexperienced.
Old drivers are just plain forgetful, set in bad habits, etc.

I've been in two accidents. Both were caused by "older" drivers. The first was a real accident. A gentleman made an illegal left turn and ran me off the road.
The second was a not an "accident" per se, but let's just say another older gentleman parked opposite my car, did not set his parking brake and forgot to put his automatic transmission in park. His car rolled right into mine.

A young driver will realize thier mistake and learn from it. An old driver will not even realize they made a mistake.

young drivers i'd say. young drivers are more defensive drivers, but they tend to have tunnel vision, and most of them think it is embarrassing to check their mirrors when friends are in the car, hehe

There is an upside down bell curve of accidents vs age graphs. It is high when young, low from 25-75, and then starts rising again. It is interesting that the frequency of accidents for 16 year olds is almost exactly equal to that of 85 year olds. Thus they are equally dangerous when it comes to number of accidents. However there is a big difference. An accident with a 16 year old may likely be at 80+ mph as they race to their destination. An accident with an 85 year old is usually at a much lower speed since they drive like turtles. Thus I voted that young people are more dangerous. Plus your age limit of 65 is too low. Raise it more to 85.
