I'm sitting here with nothing to drink except some leftover alcohol from last weekend's get-together. I'm so sick of water so ... mud-slide... I think to myself this should be tame just a bit of rum already mixed in... and I blend it with a bunch of ice... and still my face is feeling real warm and my heartrate is slightly elevated. My face is a bit red too - which is an asian thing (why is that though?).

alcohol dehydrogenase (this enzyme breaks alcohol down into carbon dioxide, fatty acids, and water) is the name of the liver enzyme I just found. What happens if I just keep consuming ? Will I be at risk moreso than "normal" people ?

No wonder I've always contended to be a non-drinker. I tried in the past and people just thought I was a light-weight. One good thing about it though... it makes me real sleepy... can come in handy.

Most asians have something called asian flush syndrome. I read it in one of my nursing textbooks.
And no, I don't turn red when I drink even though I am Asian. I get pale when I get really drunk though. Haha.

Despite my user name I actually don't drink much or even feel the desire to consume alcohol. Beer, liquor, wine - none of it really appeals to me.

I don't turn red, but I do feel the effects of alchohol fairly quickly.

oh yea, there was a few nights I had to sleep on the floor. I drank a bottle and it was a nice sleep! it is GOOD to have the effect cheaply.

Not all Asians lack alcohol dehydrogenase, but it is very common amongst Asians.

omg is that what it really is?

i'm azn and i can barely drink any alc. If i have 1/2 a beer, or even 1/2 a cup of wine i'll throw up like 1-2hrs later (this has happend at least 3x). Same prob as rh71 sorta. I don't feel any kind of drunkness at all, just sick to the stomach, and shvt faced. It kinda sux cuz the rest of my friends i hang out with drink, and i kno i def can't. So i'm pretty much designated driver wherever we go. Weird thing is that everyone else in my family is ok when they drink. They'll get red, but not the kind of reaction I get from such little alc.
