Poll: ad banner vs popup

I got this idea from reading one of the threads...do you guys hate popups more or an obstructive banner on the site?

I've seen this happen to someone and I know it would annoy me if it ever happened to me. Someone was visiting some kind of site and as soon as they exited it windows kept popping up and if you closed one, 3 more took it's place.

If the banner doesn't get too much in the way, then I would take the banner. If it is obstructing what I am doing, then I would take the popup.

<edit>prodigy69, I absolutely hate pages that knowingly force any kind of annoyance on people. That is extreme, excessive advertising.</edit>

Banner is better IMHO unless it is huge and takes longer to download than the page itself.

I hate the ads that decide to pop-up, then enable IE's full screen mode. Luckily I don't see those much outside of porn, errm, I mean, low quality research sites.

Absolutely can't stand pop-up pages. At least banner adds you can just ignore. Some of the pop-up windows are absolutely obnoxious, with sounds and all sorts of java crap running.

I use several little proggies that take care of both varieties of pests though, and I definitely don't have javascript enabled.

Yes, pop ups are annoying as hell. I prefer banners, as long as they don't give me problems. I've had the ones here on the forums do that from time to time. The page loads, and I'm reading posts, and all of a sudde, boom, I get a 404 page, cause the linkshare server is slow. But thats rare, and the palm banner makes it all better 🙂

Oh, and I remember having to reassure fellow students that &quot;Their Internet Connection was indeed optimized&quot; in HS cause those damn internet boost banners looked like error popups...
