Are you in the top 98 percent of the general, unselected population, when it comes to general intelligence?

so far it seems 80% of us are in the top 2% of the population...

EDIT: Ahaha. Now that I read it more carefully ;). Nice trick.

It's a distinct possibility. I consistently test that way on standardized tests, for whatever those are worth.

My SAT scores say so. But other than that, I think so. There are a lot of VERY dumb people out there. And the top 2% is still about 6 million people in the U.S.

Doesn't matter what a test tells you. It's a matter what you think of yourself.

Generally those with low self esteem and a low self image will seek outward verification.

Me? Nah. I haven't read in a long time and I'm seeing how it's affecting my memory and trying to recall higher vocabulary.

Same here. I'm not a genius, but I'm 100% sure I'm smarter than 95% of the people who come into this computer lab, at least when it comes to problem solving and reasoning / logic skills.

LOL, great trick.

The best part is all those people being like "well I am so smart because my SAT has me in 99% percentile so yes" who didn't even understand what the question was asking and more or less proved how little those test say about REAL intelligence :p.

Do SAT scores say much about intelligence? I got a 1280 on my SATs, but that's because I only studied like 6 hours total. I know people who got 1400+, but they studied like 100 hours or more. So does that make me stupid, and they smart? Or just that they had a better work ethic than I did (at the time)? I know people much more intelligent than I who got a 1050 or lower on the SAT's, too, who were either bad at test taking or just too lazy to study or pay attention in class at all.

I think I am very average, or slightly below or above average, if I remember IQ test results correctly. But intelligence isn't everything, only a very small subset of a person, and in a lot of cases possessing a high IQ can be a cause for arrogance. I know if I had a high IQ, I would probably a jerk about it sometimes. Even now, with normal intelligence, I sometimes act as if I am better than other people. Usually my pride is kept in check by things that happen to me, but not always.

There are three types of people in the world. Those who are good at math and those who aren't.

SWEET JESUS! THE SAT COMMENT WAS IRONIC! Standardized tests are retarded - I only scored better on the test after taking a course.

On a similar note, some of my friends who are geniuses at math and get great grades are absolutely brain-dead outside of the classroom. No common sense at all. They expect me to pay for them when we go out, they touch everything, and when they break stuff (which they do all the time), they accept no responsibility.

I was always good at testing in grade school. I scored a 162 on an IQ test I took in fourth grade at the suggestion of my teacher. I slacked in high school...got bad grades. Didn't go back to college until I was 26, after partying for 8 years. I felt stupid in all honesty. It had been so long since I had been in a classroom based learning environment that I "forgot how to absorb information" as I put it. I took some remedial courses, got back into good studying habits, and had a 3.85 for the next 2 years. I believe that a person's intelligence depends partly on how much they exercise their brain. I still don't feel as "smart" as I did in grade school (as far as booksmart type smarts) but I know I'm wiser with more knowledge and experience of the world around me.

In short: yes, I am in the top 98% of the general populace. But the top 98 percentile...? Possibly...I'd like to think so...
