POLL: AA/AF on or off?

I would like to show that some people, indeed, do still play with them off. Many cards, if not most, out there, can't run games with these turned on well anyway. Myself, I use both, but recent allegations prompted me to prove that not all people use these.

same as you, just that I am using a radeon 9700 pro

Who still spends $150-500 on a card that they do not intend to run w/ all the goodies turned on?

Even back in 1999 when I used a voodoo 5500, I ran it in all its glory.

Plus, even w/ the budget cards, Q3 runs w/ AA on well over 60fps.

Fact is, many people are still running GF4's...My second computer, with a ti4400, can only handle AA and AF in Counter-Strike basically. With the right hardware (9500pro+, FX5600Ultra+), yes there is no reason not to use it, but it's not like everybody really can.

Then the problem is not the card, your system is the bottle neck.

If you had a decent mid-high level system say 2500+ 512mb+(333 fsb), would you not be able to run those games w/ af/aa on some of the most basic cards (IE 4200) at very playable fps's?

AFIK my GF3 could do it.

I could do it on my 4400 np.

I'm betting even on a super budget card like a 440mx it could be done at 800x600 or maybe even 1024x768.

I see your 2nd machine has 256mb I bet thats where the problem is.

Drop in another 256mb(or jump to 1024, 133 is dirt cheap) and it should allieviate the slow down.

Yep, I know, but I just did the 9800 pro and am saving for future games/CD's, so I dunno yet. 512 at least is what I would aim at. But, even with my XP2400+, AA and AF crippled games (not to unplayable levels, except Splinter Cell and, for some reason, the menus in War3 became slower but not unusable). These were the achilles heal of the Ti's (at least in comparison to ATI's solutions of the time and now), IMO, so I decided the better image quality wasn't worth the performance deficit.

Yep, as I said, with the ability to there is no reason not to, but my point is that some people, like it or not, don't use either for either personal reasons or performance reasons.

I run at 1600 x 1200 with 8x AF with my 5900 Ultra. I rarely do but sometimes I do run AA at 4X. Oh and I only play Battlefied DC right now if anybody cares to know. 😀

If the thread author could possibly edit the title to" POLL: AA/AF on or off?" we might get some more votes in here.

THX again for creating the POLL in the first place.

Me, 1280x1024 everything maxed, also changed all options to best quality. 5900np

I run my 9500 Pro with 4x AA and 16 X AF everything maxed and I put the Res up as high as I can ussually untill frame rates arn't acceptable but ussually at least 1152x864.

Done. Same for me, btw, that's the max resolution my LCD can handle, anyway :\...

Why play at such a low res, when you can play at 1600x1200?

how are you even able to aim on that resoution (guy with 19" monitor speaking)

I need q3 to run at a constant 125fps.
