Now that the 7800 series is released... when do you think it will decrease it price? I wanna pick up a 6800GT... but not to find out that if I were to wait a day or two it would decrease in $$.

Considering the GT has barely dropped over the past 13 months, I personally don't think the 6800 line is ever going to get cheap. I'll believe it when I see it, but 0 availability for 6 months, followed by limited availability at >MSRP for 4-5 months, followed by FINALLY going sub-MSRP almost a year after launch has made me a cynic.

It's why I skipped the last generation.

Of course, I'm talking about PCI-E. AGP is a different story, and is already more reasonably priced. But since the 7800GTX is PCI-E only with no plans at this time for an AGP version, it should have almost zero effect on 6800-line AGP pricing, so I hope you're asking about PCI-E here or you'll be disappointed when the prices don't drop any faster than they did before the 7800GTX launch.

I feel that the 7800 is priced at 600 because there is no competition from ATI and this also means they can keep the last gen prices the same.

The 7800 might lower once ATI steps up to the plate with availability, but it would depend on their price range.

I'm thinking once ATI releases their stuff, Nvidia will try to steal the glamour with it's mid/low-range cards, and from then, depending on ATI's prices, the 7800 will lower causing a domino effect on all last gen parts.

I think they'll just continue to slowly but steadily drop in price, but maybe at a slightly faster rate.

I'm talking about PCI-E... hmm I guess I'll just pick one up at the current price. I don't want to wait another month.

prices usually don't drop magically overnight, it'll take several months before they're a good deal cheaper, and the in between months will have ever so slightly reduced prices that go lower with time.

And then there'll be the wall prices will hit where you'll have to pay more for last gen's flagship vs. the new midrange that is faster and cheaper...wants vs. needs. Decide what is best for you, waiting might be a good idea, but then there's the fact you'll have to wait...

Prices will drop when they stop selling them at their current prices. Considering the GTX is at an even higher price point, I don't think they will feel the need to change prices on last year's video cards. I mean, a lot of people like me still have AGP.
