Anyone want to buy games for $20? Isn't it better to sell games this way like Virgin Games did rather than make a really huge 15 part gold gloss laminated box that cost more to produce than the game?

I definately think this is good. Or do you think otherwise?

Maybe Virgin Games sells their games that cheap because they are crap and no one would buy them if they cost more?

The way I see it, DVD clam shell cases are good enough for xbox/ps2 games, so PC games might as well come in those too. The only exception I see is special edition games, like the Q3A LE Tin I have. That's cool as hell, I almost want to mount it on my wall or something ;)

People have become used to paying about $50/game, if you want a console game, it's usually $50, if you want a PC game, $50, unless you're buying some old software, or something produced by a cheap company, like those guys who make the deer hunter clones. If a serious publisher started putting out games for $20 put in nothing but the jewel case people would dismiss it as lower-quality.

I do miss the good manuals and fun stuff they used to put in the boxes, now it seems like it's a burden for them to actually print out installation instructions. :( Judging by the way they've been cutting out the extras I figure it won't be too long before we're paying $50 for the jewelcase.

Well, that's why piracy is so rampant. Not many kids (or adults) got the $50+ for every new game out. If they were a little more reasonable priced, everyone would get a legitimate copy instead the fakes.

Or you can just be a cheap sumbitch like me an wait till the game goes on the bargain rack for 1/2 to 1/3 the price :)

I can get Planescape torment now for $10 with someother game bundled with it.

I have seen some new games come out pretty cheap though. Deadly dozen is priced at $18 at sames club, Serious sam was only $20, and from what I've heard those games were/are very good. I also picked up Operation Flashpoint for $29 and it's a heck of a lot of playtime for the money.

But to answer your question, I agree with MrBond. Dvd clam cases would work great!

Actually, piracy is...er..."rampnt" because it's so easy to do.

Your poll doesn't have the right options. I personally never spend more than $20 on a game and I always buy them retail in a box from places like CompUSA.

Sure I don't get the latest games right away, but I have such a backlog of games that I'm not worried.
