so is there any word on how the R30's sound? i'm considering using the R30's for rear surrounds, but i cant find a place locally that has them for me to give a listen to.

they will be going on a Pioneer vsx-1014. my center channel is a Polk CSi5, my fonts are some old Kenwood 3ways with 15" woofers. any thoughts on how the R30's are gonna match up in this setup?

There are a lot of reviews here

But from what I've been reading these are great speakers especially for the money but are not the best out there of course, I think if you're an audiophile then you may think these aren't so good but for the average person like myself they will sound great.

I ordered a pair of the R30's and R15's so I'll let everyone know how they sound once I get them.

It seems like they're alternating the sale between the cherry ones and the black ones, but I'm not really sure.

I haven't seen the R50s on sale for quite a while now :(

The Cherry R50s are on sale thru Tuesday (3-8) at the Atlanta Fry's for $79.99 each.

I just scored a pair of Cherry R50 at the Duluth, GA Fry for $79.99 each. :) I had originally went to pick up a R30 for $49.99 but I saw the R50 on sale and R30 was listed at $119 each. So that made the decision very easy for me.

I'm going to use these as my front speakers for my X1 projector and move my JBL bookshelf to the rear. Should be a nice cheap upgrade for my theater/music audio.

you must be on crack. these are old school Kenwoods, not the new junk. i just listened to the r30's, rm50's and rm80's for over an hour in Circuit City. none of those speakers can hold a candle to my old Kenwoods. the r30's are at best half decent surround speakers, which is what i was looking for. the rm50's(higher priced at $200) are a bit better with a noticeably better soundstage.

the r30's are good if you can't afford more money for your mains. if you have more of a budget for main speakers, look at better models. otherwise, the r30's are definately worth the $100 for side or surround speakers. i just wish the imaging was a bit better, but i guess i gotta spend more money to get it. :(

IMHO as far as lower priced chain speakers go, the Infinity Primus sound way better than these. I listened to them a while back at Circuit City and the Polks sounded ok until I switched over the the Infinities, then it sounded like the Polks had a wet towel drapped over them. Infinites are on sale all the time to, I know American (not sure if that's a nationwide thing or just Wisconsin) has them on sale all the time. Might want to check them out.

thanks for the links... I was going to get the primus but the shipping was $30, so I got the entras with free shipping for the same total price.

The R15's get a little harsh at moderate/high volume... highs are harsh and the mid bass gets lost in some music. They sound great for classical, but are missing something for vocals and rock guitar.

I'm going to gift 'em or return them to the store.

How do the entras sound vs the primus? Did I pick the wrong set? They do have bigger drivers [6.5 vs 5.25]

Blazer, the r15s come in pairs if you were still uncertain.

Well... yeah.... but those are frickin expensive... and more comparable to the R50s I'd say.

The infinities would be a good alternative to the R15s we're also talking about. I meant them more for an alternative to them than the R30s.

Anyway, these R30s are pretty much just bookshelf speakers with a long cabinet that gives a little more low end and raises the speaker up to ear level so you don't need a stand.

If you're going to have a sub with these (which you obviously should) then I think the infinity speakers would work fine too.

I just called Outpost and they confirmed that they are a pair.

I have my reservation on getting these speakers now after all this talk but I'm by no means a audiophile and am hoping they'll do the trick for me.

I haven't heard them myself, just read some positive reviews of them... (more positive than R15 reviews ;))

I saw those primus speakers reviewed here and a couple other places. Someone else linked to the entra deal in another thread... it was either jokersmoker or ribbon13, can't remember who heh.

I guess I will have to wait and see [hear] . I imagine the 6.5" drivers will sound good vs. the 5.25" driver in ported cabinet...

The entras have the "ceramic metal matrix diaphram"speakers The primus have "metal matrix diaphram" as a feature... probably the same technology. [ nope.. CMMD is better ]

Looks like a $50 investment turned into a $120 investment... gotta be picky with the sound. :)

edit: After a quick visit to www.infinitysystems.com I see that the Primus is a current model, and that the Entras are no longer listed...

CMMD and MMD are different... The Beta series uses the ceramic diaphram. The entras must be the old model CMMD series.

I think it's a safe bet that the entra will sound better than the primus.

And about rising spending, I hear that :)

My original plan was to get a Fluance AV-HTB set with a $100 receiver and a $150 sub and right now I've spent about $1400.... and bought some nice video to go with it :)

My set of Infinity Entra ONE's just showed up... They are massive in comparison to the R15's. About 8in taller, 2in wider and 3in deeper. They are rear ported, contrary to what I had guessed...

The Entras have a stronger mid bass for sure, and are less sharp in the treble department. Electric guitar + vocals seem less strained than on the Polks. The overall sound also seems to blend with my sub better than the R15's.
With the R15's I had the treble set to -2 on the receiver... I don't need to do that with the Entras...

I listened to a pair of R30's at Fry's and wasnt too impressed... but the R15's for $50/pair are a great deal. I may end up keeping them for surrounds with the Entras.

I think a pair of Entras for $119 shipped and a pair of R15's for surrounds would be a better set up. Just my opinion though... Bookshelf vs floorstanders...

Picked up a pair of R15's and R30's.

Tried to grab the $77 sherman as well, but OOS.

So, now I need a good (but cheap.. er inexpensive) sub and a good receiver.

So, joker, round em up for me. :)

I probably linked to this sub already in this thread, so sorry if I'm repeating myself. It's a great budget sub. It goes on sale for $99 or $109 once in a while.

For a budget receiver, you can get a refurbished onkyo at ecost.com for not too much.
Circuit city sells a sherwood reciever for $120.

I got my R30's and R15's today, along with a few other things.

Made a thread about it here in off topic, with pic included.

Me too! I can't even hear my wimpy sony subwoofer.

Blazer, you gotta post a pic of the speakers all set up.

I have to give the polks credit though... the sound room where I heard the r30's was a joke... They had them on the side of the room facing eachother, so that probably had something to do with it.
