I'm opposed to abortion as well as all war, poverty, greed, and the moral relativeness of the Republican Party. I oppose giving to the rich.

Who gives to the rich? I don't recall seeing many of them out begging.

I haven't really been following up on the latest in politics and the '04 elections, but after watching the Bush speech last night, I noticed he made some religious references to God (Christian).

I was just wondering if there was any relation to religion and politics.
No flames please.

For the purposes of my poll, it will be Christian (whether Catholic or Protestant) vs. all other religions.

kerry also mentioned religion in his speech.

How someone can be Catholic and in support of something the church is fundamentally against I will never understand.

This isn't a jab at the left, but it goes for anyone.

What support is that? You didn't say and I would like to answer your question as a Catholic Democrat.

Abortion? Does anyone really support abortion? I certainly do not. I just more strongly support a womans choice. That trumps whatever my priest or whatever my pope tells me. I am very cynical when someone who has never been with a woman preeches to me about any aspect of sexuality or its consequences. Not to mention that I honestly thinks as I get older that organized religion is a sham set into motion thousands of years ago to control the masses. And thousands of years later, I think that for the most part organized Christian religions are all about $$$ to the people who act as fronts for them.

I put Independent / Atheist. I'm not a true atheist as I think that's just as ignorant as being a true Christian, or Muslim, etc. I believe if there is a real religion or higher power, we don't know what it is, and probably will never find out, so I dont support any of the religions that have been created here on earth.

Isn't not knowing the answer the definition of ignorant?

Only if the answer can be proven correct. I lean far closer to the atheist side. I think the odds of Christianity (or any other religion that Im aware of) being correct is less than 1%. There could be a higher power but i highly doubt it has anything to do with heaven or hell and any of that other nonsense.

First time I've seen anyone even try to put a probability on the existence of God. What a joke. Thanks for calling 99.9999% of the world's religions nonsense though! :cookie:

you cant get elected in this country, to any national office, if youre an atheist. who knows if either kerry or bush is actually "christian", but it would be political suicide to admit atheist leanings of any sort.

Ignorance comes just as much from "knowing" a false answer (spiritually or factually, not making a judgement on truth here) as to not knowing an answer at all. I'd call a search for an answer more admirable than clinging to an answer just to have one.

I think religion is something humanity has created to give meaning and purpose to living life. It is something to strive for when we die, and gives us hope in times of sorrow and sadness. I think the world is much better off with religion than without it. I also believe that if a person has not questioned their faith, or struggled with it at all, they cannot call themselves true believers.
