Political Compass

I was asked recently if I knew of a good political compass. I didn't, but a quick search came up with this one. It's actually a pretty well done test.

I used the search function and didn't come up with any matches so I'm assuming it hasn't been posted previously. If it has I'm sure someone will let me know.

I answered as honestly as I could and I wound up, surprise, just to the left of Gandhi.

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -7.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.38

Lower left quadrant, four lines from the left edge and four lines from the bottom edge. 🙂

That's OK by me. I like being in the company of Gandhi, Mandela, and the Dalai Lama. I'd rather be there than in the upper right with Hitler or the upper left with Stalin. 😉

Take the test. Compare results.

I believe that this test has been posted here a good number of times...or maybe I'm confusing it with another forum, but I'm pretty sure that we've done this here before.

Economic Left/Right: -0.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.74

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -3.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.69

I tend to have a rather mixed set of views, which normally puts me in a rather random location somewhere close to the centre

Economic Left/Right: -3.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.21

I'm in the nice vaccum just to the lower left of the center, lol...there is no one
like me. 🙂

Economic Left/Right: -6.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.26

I had a hard time answering those questions. Seems as though a lot of them could have gone to either side for me....

Same thing I said last time, it's fundamentally flawed!

explain?

Here's what I said last time:

The first one is fundamentally flawed, because basically there is no middle ground on some extremly polarizing positions. There are also questions that either you answer as a liberal or answer as a hitler. Many questions are "leading" or contain assumptions...examples:

Our race has many superior qualities, compared to other races.
Abortion, when the woman's life is not threatened, should always be illegal.
People with serious inheritable disabilities should not be allowed to reproduce.
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
Our civil liberties are being excessively curbed in the name of counter-terrorism.
Mothers may have careers, but their first duty is to be homemakers.
The businessman and the manufacturer are more important than the writer and the artist.

etc. etc.

you don't think the choices allow for the range of most people's politics?

strongly agree ----- agree ------ disagree ------ strongly disagree?

Of course they don't. Want me to take a specific example?

"Our race has many superior qualities, compared to other races." How else can that be answered except with either a racist answer (anything above strongly disagree), and everything else is just how strong of a racist you are??

Yeah it's flawed... to simplisitic, no nuance. "Agree" or "Disagree"? No middle, no clarification, no details, no context?

About as defective as Planned Parenthood's condoms....

HalosPuma's political compass

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.03

Hey, I'm in good company with... George W. Bush and Margaret Thatcher. Wow, I didn't realize that W and I would be so incredibly close in idealogy. 🙂

as they explained in analysis, racism is as much a part of political ideology as other social issues -- I'm glad you feel as if no one can answer anything except strongly disagree for that particular question -- probably means you are not a racist at all or are overly concerned with being labeled a racist

but if some people feel differently can't they answer to that affect? if some believe races are all the same but with some caveat they can answer "disagree" if some believe certain races have superior qualities they can answer "agree", if some are diehard supremacists they answer "strongly disagree" WTF is the problem?

much of politics involves taking stands, and on difficult issues, this and the other questions you brought up forces you to take a stand, you may lament that but thats the point of the quiz
