I'm not sure what you are getting at. It was a sting, and ended up failing because there are definitely more good people in the world than bad. Sometimes stings do net the bad guys, but sometimes they don't.

Assuming he means his post how it reads, he's implying the cops wasted public money on a sting that didn't work out.

Some people around here take any angle they can to trash the cops. It's really pathetic and illuminates how short-sighted people can be.

Edit: as if to further make my point:

Instead, what officers found in their sting operation was no shortage of good Samaritans who locked the car, shut the trunk or in one case went into the store to have someone call the police.
At least there are still good people left in this world. :)

I wonder how many people would be arrested if police in this area setup a similar sting in the Emeryville, CA Best Buy parking lot.

yeh, create some crime...

how about get some criminal off the street so he doesn't jack my car. like they are forcing him to commit a crime. if so, why were there so many people who didn't commit a crime and instead helped out?

just cause the cookie is there doesn't mean you can steal it. if you steal it, you've taken it all on your own.

that show is funny as hell because someone in the car is always like "this better not be one of those bait cars" and then like 10 secs later they get pulled over

Yeah they should definitely not try to catch dishonest people.
Or do some honest police work?

How typical of cops to sit on their lard asses and wait for crime to come to them.

I don't really disagree in principle to their methods, although they are somewhat questionable. The cops are still idiots for doing this in a mall parking lot in Thousand Oaks. T.O. is well-known as one of the safest large cities in America. They'd probably have much better luck running the sting up in Oxnard or Camarillo.

Create crime. LOL.

Yeah, all of a sudden an innocent man, after seeing an unlocked car full of electronics, is going to magically turn in to a criminal. Please.

Is there no backlog or something they can work on, rather than tying up man hours for 3 days to induce a crime? A petty one at that. Catch child molestors. Rapists. Drug dealers. Or some douchebag who'd steal "high-end eletronics" would work too, I guess(golf claps for the po-po)...

Cops in Oxnard/Camarillo are busy fighting real crime. It's the donut-stuffing maroons at the Thousand Oaks PD that get to twiddle their thumbs with public funds.

I love it when this question is asked.

Let me ask you a question first, if you walked by an unlocked car full of unsecured electronic equipment, would you steal the equipment, or attempt to jack the car?

Why would it be entrapment? It's not like they are coercing people to steal stuff.

The "car" was a Dunkin Donut van and the "high-end electronics" were actually donuts - the cops thought it was a good idea

Are you kidding?! This is no where near entrapment.

Now, if a sexy topless blonde were to come up to you, rub your chest and say, "this is my husband's car, probably gifts for his mistress. I'm in the middle of getting a divorce. Come help me carry these gifts over to my car" - then it'd be entrapment. (IMHO), but in the other thread, something similar - topless female rubbing her legs on the guy, asked the guy to do something illegal - apparently that's kosher with the police and judicial system in that part of the country. (Ohio)
