Police shoot kids: no problem
Police shoot old people: no problem
Police shoot sleeping people: no problem
Police shoot at moving cars: no problem

So is there anybody police can't shoot?

Facts of Case:

Five officers were on scene.
They weighed 200 to 300 pounds range.
They were 6 feet range.
The victim was 5 feet 5 inches tall and weigh 140 pounds.
He was sick.
He was 95 going on 96 years old.
He threatened officers with a shoehorn and a knife (allegedly).
They attempted to Taser him first which upset him.
One officer was ordered to subdue him with a beanbag shotgun round. He fired five times from 6 to 10 feet away.

The incident occurred because the victim was refusing medical care that he did not need/want. He may have been in an altered state from an infection.

When police shoot other police it gets messy.

They probably can't shoot politicians, either.

Or (other) rich people.

Yes, I'm fairly certain they can't fire beanbags at 95 year olds who dont threaten them with knives.

Seriously? You have your panties in a bunch about a cop using a beanbag to disarm somebody with a knife?

The knife part is a crock. They always say someone is brandishing a weapon.

Also why do police need to shoot someone with a knife, that was not the policy back awhile. In my town they shot a deaf person in the back for holding a small knife. He was a wood carver.

You're a dumbass.

Plus, a 95yo vet with a knife could probably kick your ass, Mr. Internet Guy. :colbert:

Why should a police officer risk being stabbed just because he 'could probably overpower the weaker man/woman/child' ?

Because we all know being younger and heavier automatically makes it impossible for someone else to hit your eyeball or nick an artery

There are a lot of valid complaints out there but this isn't one of them.

Can't win.

Let's say the Taser didn't miss, he fell, hit his head, and died. omg evil police!

Let's say they did go hands on and ended up breaking a bone. omg evil police, why ever did they need five big strong men to overpower a 95yo man?

Let's say they didn't go in at all and the man killed himself. omg evil police, why didn't they make sure he couldn't harm himself?

I ran across a story a few weeks back about a crazy guy who attacked a school in Germany with a home-made lance and flamethrower. I believe it was back in the 60's. He killed a couple of people, don't recall the details. The cops chased him to a nearby railyard where he threatened them with his _nine foot_ home made lance. They shot him in the leg and arrested his ass. Jawohl!

Regular citizens can't win either. Do anything but roll over and ask to lick their shoe and they can find something to be reasonably suspicious about. Be honest and cooperative and they'll get you to incriminate yourself. Each party is always trying to walk a tightrope, is it really so surprising how often someone falls off?

How do you know this? Were you there? If you were a witness why didn't you testify in court instead of ON THE INTERNET WHERE NOTHING YOU SAY MATTERS? Way to achieve justice there crime fighter. You could be a super hero, if only someone would take a fat guy in a dorito stained wife beater t shirt in his underpants seriously as a super hero costume right?

LOL I imagine if they shot the old man up like that it would look like this:

The point though is why should police work be completely free from RISK.

If your afraid that a 95 year old man weighing 140 pounds and in poor health can over power you maybe you don't have the right stuff to be a Police Officer!!!

People forget that police didn't always shoot people they were a lot more restrained and had more accountability. I remember a time when they couldn't raid your house in the middle of the night. Sigh.

Poor cops, the old man could have started trembling and then fall over, slicing them to bits on his way to the ground to break a hip.
