People forget that police didn't always shoot people they were a lot more restrained and had more accountability. I remember a time when they couldn't raid your house in the middle of the night. Sigh.

Always, huh?

Well, in five years on I failed to live up to your stereotype. Did save a couple lives, but not like you care about good news anyway.

Keep hatin'. Millions of angry nerds are counting on your support.

Why should a police officer risk being stabbed just because he 'could probably overpower the weaker man/woman/child' ?

Is it really that hard to just follow the instructions of police?

If a person is ill or having a bad reaction to medication they may not respond to police commands.

That's the problem though, you think we are talking about you personally. Police officers don't take criticism well. There are good police and bad police. Sadly the bad police ruin it for the good police.

We are also talking about police policy. It's just sad that a sickly 95 year old had to die because someone decided to shoot him with a shotgun. I also don't get why the police were called in the first place. A hospital should have people who are trained to deal with difficult patients.

Riiight. Say I've seen those warning labels on medications:

Side effects may include:
Difficulty breathing
Temporary tooth loss (Think about it)
Rectal bleeding
Redundancy
Redundancy
Ignorance
13 Gigatons of explosive diarrhea
Complete collapse of civilization
Puppy kicking
Rectal-cranial inversion
Toe jam
Minor blindness
Slight cardiac arrhythmia
A touch of rigor
Excessive belly button lint
Excessive nasal mucous
Appearance of extra digits (hands/feet)
Uncontrollable obsession with Liberace
Swallowing of tongue
Intermittent ignorance
Delusions of grandeur
Inability to perform jury duty
Inability to perform Judge Judy duty
Inability to hear the word duty without breaking out into immature laughter
Inability to respond to police commands
Compulsion to pick up knives and threaten bodily injury to bystanders

Sounds legit and totally explains exactly what happened in this case based on concrete evidence.

why you so racist against mudcrab's? not all of them are bad. They are also very delicious to eat.

You're right. What was I thinking. We should all strive to embrace the deliciousness of mudcrabs' tender loins. Or is that pigs' tenderloins? Not sure which.

The old man could of been a retired ninja or samurai. You just can't take those chances as a cop.

My great aunt just turned 96, and she has friends in their 90's also. Unless you know 90 year olds, don't comment on what this guy 'could have done'; they simply don't have the strength and speed to be able to fight a puppy let alone a police officer.

The cops acted wrongly, probably wanting to play with their 'toys'. I could have grabbed a weapon off that guy, given it back, and grabbed it again without much effort, regardless of how spry he was for 95.

yeah? to counter that.

A good friend of mine's grandfather is in his 90's. He was in the military, faught in a war and worked on a farm the rest of his life (still does).

He may be 90. but if he had a knife he still would fuck you up. I don't care if you are 20 something and a great athlete.

it does not take much force to cut a person with a knife. To say they should put themselves at risk to not hurt him is insane. Maybe he shouldn't threaten people with a knife if he didn't want to get hurt.

Perhaps you could, but the average cop these days is obese. It's the single greatest danger they face on the job (seriously). If you're too fat to defend yourself then you don't have any choice but to shoot.

5 12ga shotgun blasts!? Seriously!?
1 warning shot would have been plenty.

The 5 blasts probably killed a few locals from heart attacks.

Brandishing a knife... yeah right. Retirement homes don't have knives.
I want to see a picture of the "knife".

You sure know a lot.

Except about beanbag rounds. You don't know shit about them. :)

I'd have to suspect that it wasn't 5 quick shots. If he kept advancing with, as the report said, a knife, I can see them shooting him again, and again, and again.

If you have a knife and get shot once with a bean bag... consider that a courteous warning. Drop your weapon, lay down on the grown, and put your hands behind your head/back. I find it hard to believe they just shot 5 shots rapidly until he was severely injured/dead.
