W for president!

oh...wait...
Yes, they would all magically put down their guns if Kerry were elected.
It's not about Kerry. It's about GEORGE W. BUSH.
Yes, let's just wail and grind our teeth. Forget trying to figure out how to solve the problems, just give me someone to blame and all is well!

Actually I agree. After Falluja, we'll get Mosul too if they act up.

BTW: Why bring 9/11 into this? This is about the new Iraq, and the terrorists who oppose it.

Of the people fighting in Iraq, many of them are not terrorists. They are rebels who believe that their country is being destroyed by malicious American forces. The sentiment of the entire population is beginning to turn against the US. The 'gangs of armed men' are not foreign fighters, are not terrorists...they are citizens defending against what they see as an occopying army that is destroying their country. Yes...there are terrorists in Iraq, but the issue is much larger than them.

That sort of scorched earth policy worked well in Vietnam, didn't it?

While they regroup in Faluja....

We don't have enough troops to keep the finger on every hole in the ***.

First of all...much of the info is in the article posted by the OP...secondly...no...I think Michael Moore is a whacko.

Some people need to make an extra effort and read some of the MANY Iraq newspapers that are being published there that are also available on the web.

Thanks for the funny though, really got a kick out of it myself but I have been brainwashed by actual Iraqi perspectives.

Police in Mosul largely disappeared from the streets, residents reported, and gangs of armed men brandishing automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenade launchers roamed the city, 225 miles north of Baghdad. Responding to the crisis, Iraqi authorities dismissed Mosul's police chief after local officials reported that officers were abandoning their stations to militants without firing a shot.

What a bunch of idiots now the US will have to send in soldiers to kill em all and get it over with.

OK. You claim that the "sentiment of the entire population is beginning to turn against the US" which is a regurgitation of a phrase I've been hearing for over a year. They are always "beginning" to do that, as if certain people are willing it to be so. So to back up your claim you provide links that are 1) one man's opinion and bravado, reminding me of Baghdad Bob, 2) the opinion of Saudi scholars, and 3) verification that this is really the Ba'athists who are pissed about losing the power, influence, and control they used to have. Which makes perfect sense because the problem areas are primarily Sunni controlled areas.

That's not proof. It backs up where I was going with this. Thanks.

There are two ways of doing this, either you go in full force all over and clear the country from north to south or south to north, this will mean a lot of deaths but this is how successful wars are fought, name ONE successful war that did not have a high toll of civilians and soldiers on both sides.

Or you keep attacking small parts for 25 years without ever getting anywhere.

You cannot kick a hornets nest and try to swat them individually, you will be stung and stung and stung and stung and... well, you get the picture.

A no win situation!

I think this war was brought on with little thought on how to handle the situation really, it was supposed to be easy, like afghanistan with a big lead in battle and then almost calm, well, two things went wrong there.

1. the people in Afghanistan were a whole lot more opressed, Iraq was damn near secular and most people went on with their lives without involvment from SH or his corrupt "government" while the Taliban ruled Afghanistan and opressed and dictated every little thing, people were tired of it.

2. There are still battles being fought here in Afghanistan, it has gotten worse and if nothing is done it will continue to get worse while in Iraq the efforts are broader but not nearly enough.

The truth is, if Iraq is not going to be a lost cause, you cannot care about 10-20000 dead US soldiers and up to a million dead Iraqi civilians.

These are the deaths that comes with war, there is no such thing as a "nice" or "good" war which is why you should NEVER enter into one unless it is absolutely necessary.
