Police discrimination towards females.

I am a 20 year old male who has been pulled over twice, and given tickets each time (1 for 15mph over was expunged with driving school) and 1 ticket for 5mph that I received 2 years ago. My finacee, on the other hand, had been pulled over 10 times (no joke) for speeding on I-75 between the age of 17 and 19 when she would drive 100mph to school (University of Kentucky) and back.

I kid you not... she never received a speeding ticket. She is an gorgeous girl, and she has calmed her driving habits severely now (because I get on her back about our insurance once we get married).

I feel it's wrong that girls get off and guys get screwed nearly every time for traffic citations.

BTW, please no thread crapping along the lines of "F U AND URe gF, you guys drive like suck b/c I've never gotten a ticket in my life and I'm in Jesus's family line, yada yada" ... as I've already mentioned, we've both not received any tickets in the past 2-3 years and we are safe drivers, most people get a ticket here or there, I'm just complaining about how it's legal that cops can pick and choose between people they give warnings too and people who they don't.

selective enforcement sUx0rs

IMO it would be better if there were camera's and every offender got ticketed with the only exclusion being poilce cars ambulances and fire trucks that are responding to an emergency

Just wait until she runs into a gay police officer, he'll stick it to her (but then again, he might want to stick to you also) !@!!! ;)

Really, I think it all depends on the situation, maybe the cops in her case were in a hurry and didn't have time to write a ticket?

i think its more that they cry than anything else.

Perhaps males also have a more "agressive" attitude towards the police than do women.

<-----been pulled over several times for several different reasons, not one ticket

I think we're gonna need pics for further examination and for knowing the discrimination you're talking about.

err.... back on the selective enforcement track. cliffs notes: it sucks, it's wrong, and it undermines the rule of law.

actually, funny story, a girl i work with really tried to get out of a ticket, but after she's all flirty with him a lady comes back to her and gives her the ticket and he made some comment about it.. funny story..

You based your entire argument on TWO people. That doesn't seem like a very comprehensive study to me. However, it is a little fishy for your fiancee to have been pulled over TEN times with no tickets. ;)

I did a police ride-along during my senior year in high school, because I wrote an article about the AAPD for my school paper. In Ann Arbor, the police officers fill out a demographics scantron for every driver that's pulled over. The sheet has bubbles for race, age, gender, car brand, color, geographic area and whether or not the driver was ticketed. I'd like to see those figures, but I'm willing to bet that they're congruent with the demographics of Ann Arbor drivers in general.

Well..no fine, eh? No points. At least not here. Just get them renewed and show proof and that's it.

But anyway, I just think that it should be illegal to pick and choose. I am totally against drunk driving, and an old acquaintance of mine has been allowed to go home twice while being completely intoxicated because he was playing buddy-buddy with the cop. On top of all of this, my family attorney was talking with us one time and he basically said that cops, judges, policicians, etc.. are always driving home drunk and nothing will ever happen to them.

It just seems to hypocritical and wrong that some people get hit with tickets and some don't. There should be some sort of standardized system so their is no discrimination. It goes along the lines of racism as well. There is a small black population in my area (had 1500 students at my high school, about 4 or 5 were black, no asians or anything, I think 3 Bosnian exchange students) .. and I guarantee that if you're black and you get pulled over my area, you're getting nailed. It's wrong, folks!

Good pics...but are you prepared to face the music of what you just said? That means that EVERYONE who gets pulled over for a traffic offense would get a ticket.

I think you'd have a lot more unhappy people in that case, as opposed to the present situation.

And cops are NOT always driving home drunk. It's just as easy for a drunk cop to cause an accident and kill someone as any other podunk idiot out on the road. If they get caught, however, they'll most likely get in the same trouble as anyone else.

Right, what I'm saying is some type of system like.... first two speeding tickets under 10MPH should be warnings... mandatory for all drivers. That way cops can't ruin your insurance/driving record for 3 years based on whether or not they like you.

Eh, I could live with that. However, in my eyes, breaking the law is breaking the law, and speeders should EXPECT to get a ticket when they get stopped.

I've never gotten a moving violation, but if I ever get pulled over, I think I'd expect to get a ticket, and if I didn't then it would be a huge bonus - not par for the course.
