Polarized sunglasses: For driving, yes or no.

I drive a lot.. Time for a pair of quality sunglasses.. Never had the polarized kind. Are they the way to go?

u wouldn't believe the difference, i can't wear another pair of sunglasses unless they are polarized

Yes definately get polarized. They aren't that good for other situations though, as they reduce contrast... which is why hikers and skiers wear amber or yellow non polarized.

For everything, yes.

Edit: I suppose they do reduce contrast a little, but the glare they take out on the slopes is worth it.

if you can get polazized for $10 then go for it otherwise get your self cheap sunglasses as buying expensive sunglasses is waiste of money all of them are the same.

Well then, any reccomendations for brands.. are you saying that a $10 pair of polarized sunglasses are going to perform just as well as the more expensive? I just got back from Sams. They have some "Pacific Trader" polarized for $40 and Big 5 has some "Bolle" polarized for $40.

Sorry if this is a stoopid question...but what do you mean by "reduce contrast?"

No they aren't. Especially when it comes to the quality of the frames. Cheap sunglasses fall apart.

Okie dokie dilly yo, you're an idiot.

After wearing polarized, I could never go back. My only complaint is that they sometimes make the face of a the radio or clock difficult to read.

can you get polarized in a perscription?

Yup. Within reason though. If your perscription calls for thicker lenses, they can't bend it to make the curves needed for the more trendy frames. You'll have a limited selection. You just have to dig around a bit to find a frame you are happy with that can have your perscription lens put in it.

Oddly, I've only bought one pair of polarized glasses before - and I walked outside into the sun, got in my car.... and everytime I looked out my side (tinted) window, everything had a rainbow effect to it.

I don't know if my windows had some sort of polarization to them or what, but ended up returning them immediately... it was really bizarre.

It takes a bit to get used to. I noticed weird things as well. LCD displays are next to impossible to read with them. Like the credit card displays you sign at many stores. Impossible to read. Same thing with an LCD monitor. Turn your head to a certain angle and you essentially black out the screen.

Tinted windows look funny with them. You get used to it quick.
