It has been shown that a released pedophile never really stops wanting to molest. It comes down to their willpower. The only solution I see is life in prison. They just can't be trusted. Some even offend while using the drugs.

If a true criminal cannot be rehabilitated, they should be executed. I fully support this for those convicted beyond a resonable doubt of child molestation (not statutory rape).

The problem falls back onto the diagnoses. First we have to distinguish the difference between a pedophile and a child rapist. They are not the same. There are many studies that show the majority of pedophiles never actually touch a child in their lifetime. Just because someone has a propensity towards prepubescent kids (the definition of a pedophile, under puberty) doesnt mean they will molest.

That said, there has been some research that shows intensive therapy can help, but the recidivism rate among offenders remains high. But, so does the recidivism rate among rapists, also.

THAT said, I think we can do more in the way of therapy, but let it be known I think that way of other criminals too. Our problem as a species is mental health has such a terrible taboo associated with it, most dont/wont seek help. And mental illness is also very hard to diagnose (a little OT).

Anyway. Just a few thoughts.

Chem castration could be a current solution or maybe permanent institutionalization, hopefully genetic studies will get to the bottom of this problem one day and gene therapy may offer a real cure to many mental illness's. Now that stem cell tests are legal.

I'm thinking that most men or more visual in sex; therefor most sexual desire is thoughts ... I would think you would have to actually change someones mind.
