Ingress has a lot more depth and team play to it.

There is team play in PokemonGo, when you're doing a gym battle if someone else on your team is nearby and starts a battle at the same time as you, both of you will be in the battle and you can both attack the gym pokemon together.

Yeah but it's nothing like coordinating to set up those "fields" or whatever they are called in ingress.

I wonder if speed matters when trying to catch Pokémon. I was in the car with someone driving and we were on the freeway and stuck in traffic going slow and I was catching Pokémon just fine, but when there was no traffic we were going like 70mph I couldn't catch any, even when the throw said NICE! they would all run away after one throw even with using the berry thing to make it easier for them to catch. Then when traffic built up again, I was catching them fine.

I went out for gas and munchies late last night. Saw a couple of middle aged dudes in their car, looking at an 11 inch tablet, playing Pokemon.

WTF! Did you slap them back to their senses? ;)

I'll stay off the lawn as long as I can, but if there's a wild squirtle there its mine... and any amount of cane waving isn't going to stop me :colbert:

Damned wild squirtle's!! And it's not my cane that you should be worried about!

Horror/survival would be a more interesting application of this tech. Has anyone done that?

Yes it does. If you get too far away from the pokemon then you can't catch it. At high speeds you get too far away from it faster then the graphics can update.

It also doesn't count any distance for eggs and whatnot if you're going too fast.

Ugh the slow server response time is horrible too. It freezes so damn much all the time it's annoying. There's so many times where I'll try to catch a cool Pokémon I've never had before and it freezes on the pokeball closing on it. They really need to work on beefing up their servers.

I know! For me it is always the ball twitches three times and the lights go out and then it just sits there forever until I kill the app.

The game is wildly popular. I'm sure they are working overtime to add more capacity before they lose players.

The other problem they have it that Pokémon spawns are ridiculously clumped together. From my work I can catch Pokémon every 5 minutes all day while sitting at my desk, and I am in range of 3 Pokéstops, while at home I've only ever seen one spawn at all, even going out and tracking them down they are all always 3 footsteps away. My 13 year old boy and I went out hunting the other day and in several hours of walking we found one Doduo and a Rattata but hatched two 2km eggs. There is no Pokéstops or gyms in reasonable walking distance from our house, and we don't live that far out of town.

What bugs me is that population density is directly related to the variety and number of pokemon in your area. If you live in a more rural area you almost never see the more rare types. If you are in NYC for example there's lots more opportunity. It creates a bit of a problem for some players. I read that some people were spoofing their GPS to be in NYC where the density is greater so they had a chance to catch more than their rural area and got a soft ban for their efforts lol. It strikes me as odd that the creators would care knowing that their game is unfair to them to begin with. Unless they can change that and add more pokestops to areas not right in the middle of town I think the popularity will fizzle out pretty quickly. There's a few things they could add that would go a long way to make it better and more fun but I don't know if they will ever add things like the ability to battle friends outside a gym etc.

It appears that using your Google account to log in requires granting the app complete access to your account: http://adamreeve.tumblr.com/post/147120922009/pokemon-go-is-a-huge-security-risk

Nah, this is false. This is the iOS error for requesting this info but the info is never collected at all. The app creators have to jump through hoops to disable this in the app too.

We recently discovered that the Pokemon GO account creation process on iOS erroneously requests full access permission for the user’s Google account. However, Pokemon GO only accesses basic Google profile information (specifically, your User ID and email address) and no other Google account information is or has been accessed or collected."

"Once we became aware of this error, we began working on a client-side fix to request permission for only basic Google profile information, in line with the data that we actually access. Google has verified that no other information has been received or accessed by Pokémon GO or Niantic. Google will soon reduce Pokemon GO’s permission to only the basic profile data that Pokemon GO needs, and users do not need to take any actions themselves.

i cant believe I'm doing this, but I need help.

Finally just got my dude to level 5 and joined a gym. Got stomped cuz I didnt realize fighting was in real time and interactive.

Anyway, I have two raticate's. One is power 149 and has quick attack and Dig (3 little bars, 70 pp, or whatever).
Another raticate is power 59 and has Bite and Hyperbeam (one long bar, pp 120).

What should I do here? Do I power up the Hyperbeam guy until he's useful at a gym? Is there some way to breed or transfer the Hyperbeam ability to another pokemon?

Abilities and attacks are random. You can't transfer them. What I would do is forget about doing gym battles for now. Almost every gym around me starts at at least 1200cp. Just keep finding Pokemon and leveling up. You will find that eventually you run across a Pokemon in the wild that is stronger than what you have. There is no point powering up a Pokemon in the 100s. When you level up more you will find some that are 500+ and evolve up into a 700+ and you would have wasted candy to power up one that caps at 250ish. You will also likely run into Pokemon that are just flat out better for battles if you want to get into that.

Attacks and abilities are random. They also change randomly when you evolve. This means that only the movesets for the final form matters.

One thing to note is that the percentage of max CP remains the same after evolution. So if your CP bar is nearly maxed out for your 100 CP magikarp, then when you evolve it, it'll become a nearly maxed out 1800 CP gyarados.

However, the maximum CP increases as you level up. So if the max CP was 100 when you're level 5, then at level 10, it'll be a higher number like 150. So the pokemon you catch now are really only useful for turning into candy so that a future stronger pokemon can be evolved.

There are actually IV's (like the the portable games) for pokemon but the values are small enough that it doesn't matter nearly as much as the optimal moveset.

Just keep on leveling your guy No point in wasting dust on the lowbies like raticates.
you'll find stronger pokemon as you level.
