pointer slow when printer is disconnected

I know it sounds weird, but my friend's system acts this way. Can anybody give me a clue what's happening? She's got amd k6-2 500 w/fic 2013 mobo. She asked me to help her install a sound card. But to my surprise, when i disconnected her 3-in-1 hp printer, the pointer moved so sloooow. I wanted to reformat her HD but maybe somebody here has got an easier and faster way to solve this. TIA!!!

maybe you put it in quality mode. and it used to be in draft. Cause on my printer draft is about 1000x faster than quality ?!?! Just an idea. Or maybe the printer just went to sh!t.

Does the mouse go back to normal when you connect the printer back up and restart?
If it does might be the printer monitor running in the backgroud that is communicating with the printer on a constant basis and when it is not connected is freaking out.
Try uninstalling the printer and removing any printer references in the startup tab under msconfig.exe and then restart.

You see the little HP TSR app in the task bar blinking like a madman? It's sitting scanning for the printer to come back (it gets lonely)

Kill that and all will be good
