So the Middle East is largely Muslim and devout.

Now I have heard the same people argue that we are spreading democracy in Iraq and elsewhere, that they will get to be peaceful and properous countries and in the next breath claim that their religion (which they have not renounced) compels them to kill or convert us.

So are the Iraqi citizens lusting for democracy, or are they bloodthirsty killers?

Maybe they will be bloodthirsty people living in a democracy. Wouldn't be the first time for that.

what? we can't have it both ways, depending on how one way would better serve our current argument?

but ... they are terrorists! evil! and they love us and will welcome us with flowers and hugs and chop our heads off in sincere gratitute for liberating them from the stone age!

This is how it breaks down:

If you criticize some christians for being zealots you are being a "secular-zealot" and overlooking all the normal christians out there.

If you criticize ALL muslims for being fanatics it's okay because after all 9/11 changed everything and we are in a war on Islam whether you like it or not.

I don't even care anymore. I'm tired of seeing the sh*t on the news, every single day "10 Iraqis killed", "governor assassinated", "Iraqi recruits slaughtered", "woman decapitated", "Iraqis blow up infrastructure built by US troops, even though they need said facility to survive", "Archaic religious dipshit says something ridiculous", "Entire region fears women, hates Jews, and still believes in fairy tales", and so on.

It seems obvious: SEND MORE FVCKING TROOPS you moron. And if there aren't any more troops to send, then maybe you should've thought about that before you invaded, huh? Instead you sent less than half of what the military said it needed, and declared, "Bring it on!". And they did; every illiterate rock-throwing savage between the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean flocked to Iraq to kill, kill, kill for Allah...is it everything you hoped it would be, Mr. President? Are we still "winning"?

I've always been more Republican than Democrat...but now I hate them both. I don't want to hear anymore about the War on Terror, gay marriage, or abortion, dammit! I want to hear about my government forcing the oil companies to develop alternate means of fuel so we can finally cut this tumor loose and get on with our lives.
