Watch out for the stupid:

FREE CA Online Backup 10 GB 6 Month Subscription "DOWNLOAD"

I didn't pay attention and requested to cancel it after the order, didn't know But.com was doing stupid S like this now.

Have the same unit. Enable SSH and then you can mount network shares to be available via the pogoplug software on the go. Pretty neat!

that is killer! i think im going to try to install archlinux to my pogo now though. just want to see what its like... i really want to try running skype on it. i would be buying about 100 of these if i can.

well it worked! i used this link to install archlinux on my $25 pogoplug!

problem is, i dont know linux and i have no idea what to do now. i logged into via ssh and the login/pass is root/root so i know i installed the os correctly... i just dont know what to do now! i want a ui dammit! 😀 more reading to do.......

I'm going to throw asterisk on mine as I don't feel like building all the services on my Ubuntu Server based NAS. I read the plug only draws 3 watts anyway.

can you setup skype on that pbx software then? what types of phones do you need to use?

i just got archlinx off my pogoplug and its back online to the pogocloud. funny, it seems their oem pogo service and firmware is just the best for this device. at least if you want to use it as a file server.

but if i could do a pbx thing that might be cool too. i think it would be cool to forward calls to my cellphone if im not home.

I picked up 2 since i had a 50 rebate card that had to be used and FW cash is up to 6% at buy. ($3)

I hope to have fun with them.

VOIP phones, even across the world, can be managed buy a PBX. You can also use a "soft phone"

Let's say you had a PBX in the USA and one in Japan. You could trunk them together to route any "long distance" between those PBXs to only call out from the number in that country.....making the calls free ( if they are free locally in the country the PBX is located in)

well i think ill try to figure out how to set that up then. if i could make these pogo devices into standalone skype servers then FINALLY i found a good cheap solution for that.

my little pogo has been working great. its basically a hardware version of orb... which seems to be a lot more reliable. always looked past these things when they were $100 but for whatever reason buy.com can sell them at less then half of anyone else.. and that makes this a fantastic deal!

FYI If you are just looking to use it with the Pogoplug software, J&R has the B01 for $19.99 free shipping with their Friends with Benefits discount.

B01 (dual core 700mhz ARM6/128MB RAM) vs E02 (single core 1.2ghz ARM5/256MB RAM), might save you some money depending on your usage. I will have one of both now (along with a Dockstar)

yeah it seems if you want to mod your firmware then the e02 is the one to get as it has more memory... otherwise it doesnt matter much (i dont think the dual core cpu does much either for all intents and purposes... mainly because all speeds are limited to usb 2.0 anyway).

its listed as a POGOP21 device, but buy.com has a history of shipping e02's anyway. well, i just ordered one 3 days ago and it is indeed an e02. so ymmv, but it looks all good.

n00b question - isn't the P21 "better" than the E02?
http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5/pogoplug-v2-pinkgray
http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/pogoplug-provideov3

Sounds like lower clock rate ARM6 (P21) vs ARM5 (E02) but the P21 has a miniPCIe slot!

Confused....

TIA,
Richard

The reason I kept the stock software and just added my network shares is that I still wanted to be able to use the pogoplug software, website, and android app to access my files. I don't think you can do that once you change the OS.

I could be wrong though.

well i guess there are some linux distros that work on pogoplugs and still allow the cloud service... but it seems the most functionality you get with that is just a webserver anyway...

the stock firmware is really good too. a very nice little device, i love how its essentially an easy to use hardware ftp server

Easy. Setup a WebDAV share and use WebDAV File Manager from the Market to access your files.
