Podcast App

I've never had most of the issues I hear about, but until now I've only used a nano. Went up to a touch when my latest nano started acting flakey. In many ways its a great improvement, in handling podcast it's several steps below. Since its tries to act as it's own computer even after going through all the settings to attempt to ignore such behavior, I still can't get it to work as smoothly as a 'dumb' nano that just gets material from the sync via computer.

For anyone else experienced with this already, what podcast app is out there that is easy to set up so all it becomes is a podcast player allowing to do offload all management to the computer?

I've not ever used any third party podcast apps, I've always just used the one built into iOS 9. You can specify in which order you want the episodes displayed, and which order you'd like them to be played. Once you set those to match the behavior you are used to seeing on the "dumb" device, it should do just fine. For example if the dumb device displays them sequentially and also plays them sequentially, set them to do that in the podcast app, and forget it.

Why would you want to do any management on the computer?

Because I've always done it that way, and until my latest ipod purchase I had no choice but to do it that way.

While I can't answer your request for a podcast app that can be managed from a desktop, I will suggest Overcast as a fantastic iOS podcast app. Probably the best. It is audio only, but works great. Been using it for 16 months now, pretty well daily.
