Pod race in episode I...

Anakin's pod sounds like a race bike, and when they are ready to start the race i hear an internal combustion engine? WTF? Is that really the best they could do? Why not use different jet sounds or something?

I suppose that they could use something that sounded less like a regular car engine thought it didn't really bother me.

I think that the entire pod racing scene from TPM has an impressive audio mix.

Actually, Star Wars is NOT sci-fi, technically speaking. It's pure fantasy, just set in space.

Yes, they could be indy cars--i didnt think of that. But they sounded like race bikes to me. Nonetheless, its really lame that they thought their audience would think that JET engines sound like interal combustion engines. WTF was their budget on this movie?

I'm sure the pod racer sound design was an intentional throwback by Lucas.

When anakin fires up his pod that is clearly a jet engine with afterburner and all. Maybe all of them are not technically jets, but why does anakin's "jet" sound like an indy car/race bike?

Space is a vacuum. Sound travels by vibrating stuff.
Space has no stuff to vibrate, hence no sound in space. So no, I doubt anyone has heard an explosion in space.

Listen asshat, and listen closely since you clearly missed my point. Im questioning the CREATIVITY of Lucas Arts, not the reality. Get it? More people know that something that looks like a JET engine will probably NOT sound like a race car since race cars do not have JET engines. Get it?
