So, it is as upgradeable and as lasting in performance over time as a laptop, minus the screen and supposed portability+usability of one, that is stationary to a desk workstation/HDTV setup (hence docking station)?

CPU and any cooling (if they say it is powerful as a gaming system) are permanent, RAM upgradeability is already determined by the slots and CPU memory controller support and it is trivial to max it out off the bat, meaning memory upgrades are worthless if it is maxed. Hard drive expansion for more SSD capacity is a plus, but I go back to my "laptop" comparison and mobility+usability of one.

These guys obviously want to be the NUC too.

The docking station and cassette are an easy way to take your small pc with you and dock it in another place. Really awesome():)

So you have a NUC like system with a HDD docking port...and you can yoink the HDD and plug it into another NUC like system elsewhere. Yay?

I think I'd rather have a surface tablet or similar...then I can actually use it on the go.

Yeah, my thought was:

This company missed the boat on the cloud and corporate infrastructure. Why move a piece of hardware around? Just leave the hardware where it is and have them log into their profile if you control it. If you don't, they could still just bring a USB key with them, or give them a laptop. It looks like this requires a docking station anyway.

So you would rather have something that is about equal size (cassette + dock) to a NUC and the need to purchase additional docks to actually be useful? I'd say that the NUC is pretty portable for its size, making this idea somewhat redundant. If I were to carry the NUC, all I would need is a keyboard, mouse and monitor. With this, not only would I have to worry about finding the said essentials, I would have to find an extra dock.

The concept is definitely doable if the dock can be manufactured at low cost and widely available everywhere, not just limited to home and office.

Besides, there are computers everywhere these days. If I wanted the security of my own OS, I could just plug in my thumb drive with Slax or Linux Puppy into any PC with a USB port.
