PNY USB stick not being recognized

It's a new PNY 64gb Attache drive. My win7 box wouldn't recognize it from the gitgo. There is a 'connection' sound and I do see it listed in device manager as well as in disk management, but I cannot access it, nor format it. I cannot assign it a drive letter in disk management. I get error messages when I try to. The drive works normally in my wife's computer. Other USB sticks work normally in the same USB port. All other ports (I've 3 in front) do the same behavior.

So, I don't think its the stick - works everywhere else.
I don't think it's the port - all other sticks ( 1 is also a 64gb but not PNY) work normally.
I've reformatted the stick in another computer, both as NTSF as well as FAT32, still no joy.
I've updated BIOS,controller drivers, etc.

Any ideas gratefully entertained.
Anyone want to buy a slightly used PNY stick?

Thanks

I would, but you have covered almost everything. Can you tell us what the error message is? Are you plugging it into a USB 2 or USB 3 connection? What motherboard does your box have? Have you tried other ports?

I would throw you an offer, but I just bought a 64 GB SanDisk card.

That's not so uncommon. I have a USB port on my gaming rig that my external drive won't work on but the drive works fine everywhere else and everything else seems to work fine in that port. Oh well.

Sometime the drives go unnoticed by the oS, i.e. like notheiong is happening...just dead... but in Device manager, you can go into the USB tree and spot a wee yellow question mark... that's your drive waiting to initialized... does happen.
