What is there to debate? You think I should post in another forum, I think it belongs here, that's a mod issue. You were the one trying to stifle my debating by telling me to go somewhere else.
Yea, Hot Deals is where the mod action is at! I said move it to another forum if you don't want people disagreeing with you here. It's hot deals, not let's mod.
Before the ribbon cables, we used to cut the back off the slot or cut the pins off the video card. This isn't new, it isn't absolute.
We? you and the other guy? Good for you.
That's not standard, and it is
absolute that as designed that an x16 will not work in an x1, x4, or x8 slot. In fact, the mod proves it. Unless you have some footage of someone jamming that x16 into an x1 and making it work without modding...
This is a tech site and thinking out of the box is very common. I think of the ribbon cable as an adapter, the same way you would buy a bracket to make a HSF fit on a socket.
Oh yea, absolutely. A HSF bracket built for a specific socket is the same as modding a PCIE slot. lol...
I replied to you because you gave a blanket statement saying it won't work. I supplied the information for making it work. You seem to think I'm doing a disservice by giving someone information.
Guess you should've replied to the poster, or taken it up with the mods. Right? My blanket statement applies 100% to the question. It's how it was designed
Maybe we should all just go buy Dells.
Don't go getting all butt hurt over it. If you buy a Dell, you can mod stuff on it. In fact, you'll probably have to mod it to make it do what you want...sounds like its right up your alley.
I'm all for additional information. And while the information you provide makes the geek in me all giddy, it's not what I would recommend to a guy looking for a video card for his headless server.
Context matters.
