I'm thinking the 7900GS would be better. Look for reviews. Another card you might wanna consider is the X1950pro.

the 7900gs is a great card and can be overclocked quite well. It is a much better card then the x1600.

Out of those 2 the 7900GS is massively cheaper & a much better performer. 7900GS $150 vs X1600 Pro $206.

7900GS (in that sale) = bargain

The X1600pro is no match for the 7900GS. Wouldnt be surprised if it was twice as fast as a X1600pro if not much more faster.

X1600 is a dogs dinner of a card

looks good on paper but its just complete balls. the X1650 is much better (since its now got 24 shaders instead of 12) but its still not very good, and its still blowing on a 128bit memory interface.

Its a mid range card. No company can afford to mass produce 256bit cards as mainstream because 256bit means more expensive Vram, bigger die space, more complex PCB, etc.

That's a rather "backwards" sale. The MSRP for an X1300 XT (same exact card, renamed) is $90 for PCI-e. X1600 Pros have sold in in the states for around $110 for AGP, and $90 for PCI-e, for many months, while the 7900 GS is fairly new, and has been closer to $250 than to $150.

I agree, it's entirely likely that the 7900 GS has twice the raw speed that the X1600 does.

For about 2 1/2 generations, a "600" is an OCCASIONAL gamer's card, an "800" is a major gamers' card, and a "900" is a bragging rights special. Only the trailing three digits count now.

Thanks guys! I got the PNY GeForce 7900 from best buy. I might have driven in Dallas traffic (up the 35 if you know what I'm talking about) for 3 hours, but I got it for $140 so it's all good. Thanks for all the info!!

Yeah, that I35 Traffic bit all the way from Dallas/Ft Worth through Austin.

Now I get to contend with Seattle Traffic :(
