PNY Compact Flash Reader

I recently bought a PNY Compact flash reader and cannot get it working in XP. It is supposed to use no drivers and be automatically installed as a removable drive, but when i plug the usb in i get nothing
 
I have this exact CF reader it works fine in XP without drivers.

Try plugging it in a different USB port. If that doesn't work, try it on another computer. If it works on the other computer, than the USB ports on your computer probably are dead. Otherwise, the CF reader is dead.
 
appreciate the reply. I plug my mouse and tablet into the usb port and both work fine so I
m assuming that its the reader. My new laptop runs usb 2.0 but it should not matter right, everything is supposed to be backwards compatible?
