PNY hosed me on a rebate on ti4600 long ago, then when the card died with a lifetime warranty and the card was still bein sold, but not made, would not replace it. PNY X; X;


 
Buy.com is such a scam... this was 249 since yesterday with free shipping.... now people start jumpin in on the hot deal and they not only raise the price 100 dollars, but they add shipping costs to boot. Do yourselves a favor and get the eVGA (with lifetime warranty) from newegg... both solid companies, unlike PNY and buy.com. It's 259AR... that or wait for the R600.

How is the noise on this card? Suitable for a quiet HTPC? I prefer silent cards, but for only $10 more than a passively cooled Gigabyte 8600gts, this is hard to pass.

There's nothing quite like playing oblivion on a 50" screen, that's why
 
card is very quiet stock... have to turn up to 70% fan to start hearing it... waaay quieter than my 1800 or 850...
 
I've had no problems with the PNYs I've had in the past (GF3Ti500 & 6800GT), but I'm more inclined to stick with eVGA, though this is VERY tempting.

For those who have one of these, how long is the card. The Newegg reviews make it sound 10" long.:Q

$225 AR. Can't pass that up as a stop gap upgrade until I build my next rig late this summer with a 89xx in it.
 
Good deal. Personally I'm considering the EVGA 8800 from Newegg for about $30 more. EVGA has always been stellar in my book, especially with rebates, and I'd have more peace of mind going with Newegg and EVGA.
 
It's $41.13 more for the comparable eVGA piece from Newegg with shipping, albeit getting it faster. Plus you'll be able to Step-Up when the next big thing comes out.

My problem is that I'm not certain to be building a new rig within 3 months, so I'd rather save the $40 now and then survey the landscape when I'm really gung-ho to build a new rig. By the time Crysis or some other DX10 needing title drops, quad-cores and 89-series cards will be out and Vista may be getting ready for prime time along with drivers, etc. My rig is fine for now for most games, so why rush? In September, faster, cheaper stuff will be available. Good things come to those who wait.
 
I know that Step-Up is within a 90-day window and that's why I said in the next sentence that "My problem is that I'm not certain to be building a new rig within 3 months." I'm fairly certain that the 89xx cards will be out by mid-July; I'm just not likely to build again until September.

I ordered on Weds. and it says "Sent to Warehouse" for me, too. When I looked at the page earlier, it loads and then blinks out the Buy.com price and substitutes ANTOnline @ $314 shipped. On the right side, the Buy price is listed, but it says "On Order". I just hope we're not going to be waiting for ages for the stock to come in. I'm already making deals to ****** my 7900GTs. Uh-oh.

At that point, whether to go for the eVGA version at Newegg for $266 shipped AR becomes the question. They have the PNY for $256 shipped AR, but if you're going to spend an extra $25, you may as well spend $35 and get an eVGA.
