PNY 6800nu from CUSA slow performer

What sort of scores are other people getting with the 6800nu?

I got in on the $199 PNY 6800 from black friday. Tried playing Doom 3 buts its choppy and slow. My benches are as follows

3d mark 05 3100
Aquamark 3 49623
Doom 3 1024x768 high quality no AA 43.3fps

The multiplayer is unbearable. I'm running the card at stock settings 325/700. Tried softmodding and it unlocked completely but the performance gains were nil. According to the review on the this site and Toms I should be getting 85 fps.

I'm running a P4 3.0 on an Intel 865GBF with 2x512 of Corsair Value Select PC3200

Anyone have a clue?

Thanks

High quality requires 256MB of RAM. It is doing a lo of AGP transfers with a 6800nu. Try medium instead with a 128MB card.

i have no problems running high on my evga nu @1152 with my xp2500@3200. ultra gets choppy tho.

id say check your vsynch settings.

What card did you have installed before? Did you run Driver Cleaner to remove the remnents of the previous video card drivers?

Dont do Medium!!!!!

I am running a 5900XT and i run it at 1024x768 on hgih quality. Rig spec are in my sig.

Your 3dmark scores are fine however the DIII is kinda low. What drivers are you using. ALso did you make sure to plug in the molex connector, if you didn't it ruuns overclocked.

Fresh install of WinXP Pro SP2 with the 66.93 driver set. Molex connector is in. Unplugged it and the system beeped horribly and wouldn't turn on just to make sure. It's running at 325/700 stock speed according to 3D mark. I have no idea why doom 3 is so slow.

How can a 128 MB card possibly do high quality if the game is oversaturating it with textures?

I don't doubt it runs for you, just looking for the tech details.

A lot of people over at HardOCP were reporting transistors had fallen off their PNY $200 6800NUs. They suspected they were refurbs/returns that were misleadingly (and illegally) labeled as new. They were getting bad performance with them as well.

Frankly, just saty away from PNY all together. They make crappy products.

I wanna bump this.
I got in on this BF deal also and my scores arent so hot(comparatively) in doom3 either.
Now I only ran the timedemo 3 times for each setting so it might be a little bit off.
When I drop to medium settings, 800x600x32, no AA + vsync off I get ~65fps on "timedemo demo1"
When I bump it up to medium settings and 1024x768x32, no AA + vsync off I get 64fps on "timedemo demo1"
It's odd how theyre so close together, right?
Also my 3dmark05 scores are 3688 and 3dmark03 scores are 9315.

My system is a barton 2500 OC to 3200 with 512MB Corsair platinum something, albatron NF2 mobo @ 400MHz FSB, PNY GF6800 with successful softmod of all the extra pipes and vertex shader. I am running a funky beta version of the Forceware drivers(70.41) from guru3d.
I formatted my HD just to see how dramatic the perf differences would be from my GF5900, and I am still wondering if there is more I should be doing to squeeze out some more from the card.

Hm, wait. If the multiplayer is worse than single player it is very unlikely that the graphics card is the problem. Maybe there are more polygons running around but it certainly wouldn't make that much of a difference.

If clocking it higher mkes no difference than that is a very strong indication your video card is not the problem, too.

So...

Is it possible that I am right that you cannot run Doom3 high quality on a 128 MB card (like the Doom3 README says)? If you are constantly trashing textures you are just exercising your AGP bus, nothing more.
