It MIGHT be a hold charge, to verify the cards funds and legality. If so, the charge will be gone after a day or so.

I sent an email to their customer service earlier, if I fail to get a response on Friday, I'm going to call their 800 number.

Just go to Fry's and buy one?

LOL, Fry's isn't a nationwide chain ... in the Northeast if you asked for Frys they'd send you to McDonalds

LOL.
If you live fairly close to a fry's you should just walk in and get one. If not, try ordering from outpost.

I ordered one today, they have already charged my credit card. NOT a hold charge, a real charge. That is not right, if it isn't in stock.

You know very well that most people dont have a frys nebor.

So just get people who do have them to buy them and ship them for you? It sounds like everyone's getting screwed ordering them directly.

You know, Since they have not responded to my email, and since the PNY GT is now listed as unavailable, I'm going to call their 800 number and find out what going on.

Edit - Just got off the phone with them. Only took a few minutes to talk to a CSR. I was informed that they card did indeed go into back order *duh* and that they'd be getting move in on wedsnesday of next week. When I inquired about the charge to my card, I was informed that since they'd be receiving more cards within a certain time frame, the card was charged. Doesn't really seem like a good policy to me, but if I don't see a shipping status next wedsnesday, I'm going to call them again.

I would cancel my order under those circumstances.

Since I was informed the card would ship on Wedsnesday, I'll hold off canceling my order for now. Any more delays, however, and I'm going to call them back and see about getting a free upgrade in shipping, to compensate for the inconvenience.

The CSR I spoke to specifically said wedsnesday, however, I got this email this morning.

"Thank you for your order! We apologize but the item(s) you
ordered is currently out of stock and we are unable to provide a
definite ship date at this time. However, we continually receive
new merchandise in our warehouse and we hope to fulfill your
order within the next thirty days or sooner if possible."

From what I hear, these stores continually lie to customers about when the cards will be coming in. There were people who tried to purchase X800XT's in another thread that were told about 5 different dates. After the first date passed by, they would revise it to a week later. It was a long time before they got their cards, if they ever even did.

This is kinda an odd practice. This was the same circumstance I had with Monarch when I pre-ordered the BFG 6800 Ultra, which they still don't have in stock. However, my funds were refunded in full when I cancelled my order. Even though it is odd, if Fry's is reputable, I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure that you have evidence that they changed your card.

Isn't there some sort of law that requires an ETA date for pre-orders? I imagine, since the retailers have no clue when they are getting the cards, they just give you a best guess estimate. I'm sure that everyone else has noticed that Newegg no longer does pre-order, the nice thing about that is if the Egg says they have them, they do. I bet that this kinda thing is a huge hassle for retailers as well.

which is why a phone call is better than ordering from a site.

pick up the phone, have them confirm stock (web sites aren't always real time...most likely not) and order away!

received mine friday at 9:20 am.
