PNY 6800GS AGP for $179

thats a great price, I got my BFG 6800 gs from chiefvalue for 195 with free shipping 3 weeks ago and I love the card. Easy to unlock and its quiet, no problems, hot deal definitely.

i ordered the evga 6800gs co but was backordered so i cancelled and jumped on this...

just a note:
1-year warranty, upgradable to 3-year w/ free registration on www.pny.com

this isn't a big issue for most since i'd imagine most people buying an agp card plan on upgrading before 3 years...

I have the same setup except with a 9800 pro. Test drove an x850 pro (6800gs should be just as fast or better) for a week with DOD:S. I went from no AA/AF, 1024x at 30-40fps w/occasional stuttering to 2X AA&AF, 1024x at 50-60fps consistent. With AA&AF off I didn't get much better. I guess that this is the limit for the CPU. Could go to 1280x but had to turn off AA to keep the frames up. Didn't do any more testing since I just wanted to play.

Been reading that you can unlock the PNY's 4pipes/1shader without problems. Just ordered one for $187 shipped to CA. Thanks for the hot deal!

I bit also after seeing that Tiger has 30 days guarantee on that card and u can return it within and there is no restocking fee. Hope I am as impressed with the card as I had a dim view of PNY in the past. 3 yr. warranty is sufficient for dying agp. Hope it unlocks but not holding my breath. I was holding out for a 7800gs good deal but this is best deal yet and 6800gs cards are beginning to dry up and this card will be enough overkill for my 2400+. I am upgrading from a trusty ole 9800P also, sniff sniff.

at what point do you think I am going to get the best price on an AGP upgrade for my fx5900ultra?

I'm looking to buy at the latest by about june (done with college for the summer, more time for gaming and the new games should be needing more than my modest card). When will cards like this or something of similar preformance be in the $100 range?

Well, it was either this deal or spend $500+ for a new PCI-E system. I chose this deal to squeeze a bit more life out of my old AGP rig...

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice guys. I was looking to buy a whole cpu/mobo/pci-x video card but decided to just get this video card and try to hold off on the whole system upgrade. Would be great if the extra pipes unlocked!

I put this card in a Compaq with the stock PSU and unlocked it in about 2 mins, the longest part of the processs is downloading rivatuner. No artifacts, quiet and is blazing fast

I didnt get in on this deal, my boss bought me the card for thanking me when I was working on the weekend with the phone system and other computer stuff. I also have unlocked the pipes in the card (my freind help me out with that). the card is great for those who are looking for a AGP card.. however in my opinion, upgradeing to a PCI-E system would save you, since I dont think they are makeing anymore AGP cards and more PCI-E.

just my 2 cents 😉

I'd also like to point out that even though Chadder and I are polar opposites in the P&N forum, we can all come together on cheap vid cards. Isn't it lovely? 😉

Got my card and just installed it. Was able to unlock the extra pipes and ran a couple tests of 3dmark05 without artifacts. Will have to do more extensive tests tommorow but looking great so far.

Nice. Mine is scheduled to be delivered on 4/5

Just got mine yesterday. Unmasking the pipes gave artifacts 🙁 but the shader is OK. At stock speed I can max out the resolution of my LCD (12x10) with 2xAA/8xAF playing DOD:S at 40fps/ave! Probably will turn those down or OC to get >50fps but it looks like my good old xp3200+ still has some life left in it.

Yay! Successfully unlocked the extra pipelines and vertex shaders. Ran Doom 3 for a bit and saw no artifacts... so everything's looking good.

Got 62.5fps on Doom 3 with this 6800 GS vs ~30fps on my old ATi 9800 Pro.

Haven't overclocked yet, but not sure if i need to.
