I have Googled this, but I want to know if you guys that HAVE the cards will tell me. At 12x10 resolution, all visuals maxxed, will FarCry be playable? HL2? I know D3 will be...

yes it will be very playable. I have been playing FC non stop since I got mine and running it at 1600x1200 no AA, 4x AF and it looks fantastic. I could bump or AA or AF more but the difference isn't really that noticable. I just got the 1.2 patch and DX9c and enabled SM3.0 and have even noticed further performance gains. I will load up HL2 beta tonight and see how it does I thought it was playable on my 9500 Pro so I bet it will be even better now.
 
Yes, my verto box has farcry all on maxx.

The only time that it got somewhat "nauseating" framerates was almost to the end stage wherein valerie or whatever her name drives a jeep soo fast around 50mph through the jungle and you got the gatling gun fired up at the back helm while 2 jeeps and a chopper follows you around. It was tense!

My x800pro gets better framerates on farcry with all on maxx except "shadow quality" on medium. If I put it on "high" leaves and trees turn from green to rainbow-colored artifacts.

farcry everything maxed 1280x1024... 4x AA 4X AS OMFG.. unforking beleiveable.... soo smooth soo silky... no stutter not one inperfection...

ok we all know SWG looked like crap and played like crap.. but now my system plays it better than the system thay had at E3... EVERYTHING to max shader verison2 on... and OMFG... the game is actually beautiful...
40 fps even in a firefight with lots of people and those lag fest flamethrowers...
im blown away by how powerful this card is..
 
Base a hardware purchase off of one game?

Unless it's the ONE game you've been justifying a long-awaited (2+ years) upgrade.
 
overall on a lot of benchmarks, they've been fairly even, but the 6800gt wins by a hair. they won by a whole wig on those benchmarks for doom3. besides, i buy a new video card like once a year. i'm still packin my 9700pro right now. it's that time!

I found the PNY 6800 GT 256 in stock at the compUSA near my house... it was 399
came out to 433 I think it was.
be advised, it looks like these are not in great supply... I was a walkin customer that saw on the compusa page that this location had them... it turns out they hadnt even unpacked them they had come in that day.. and guess how many they got...
2... and the other was reserved already.. pretty sad when a new shipment = 2 pieces..
 
I bought a GT on Monday and finally gave Farcry a try. I'm using a Athlon 64 3200 and 1024MB RAM, and at 1280x1024 and everything set to high everything runs great. Haven't tried the 1.2 patch yet...waiting for either a no cd patch to surface or my RMA'd DVD burner to arrive from Newegg, and I guess DX9c.

6800 GT 400/1100 ( Ultra speeds )

Runs like a champ..

Doom 3 1600x1200 Ultra settings..

Extremely impressed with how well this game runs... Fluid, smooth, silky whatever you want to call it.. It runs like hell...
