PNY 6800 GT $350

Showing up as $350 on the page now. Good find... anyone know how these compare to the BFG 6800 GT (besides the dual DVI on the PNY and the OC on the BFG)?
 
I have owned this for a couple of months and got it at this price. I'm happy that this price is still a good deal this much time later.
 
Other than the warranty, I've heard great things about the PNY 6800 GT. The cooling is much better than the BFG's dual fan setup, and honestly, most people who buy a 6800 GT are going to overclock it past the BFG's 20MHz overclock anyways, so that's not a big big deal. The better cooling should more than make up for that.
 
Question on the BFG warranty: If I buy a NIB card on Ebay, do I assume the lifetime warranty of the card, or do I need a receipt indicating my purchase of it ? (not via an auction).

Only need the card. No receipt or accessories needed. Very fast turnaround too. They shipped a new card to me the very next day after they received my card. Some companies like ATI and Asus take months. 24/7 free lifetime live phone support too!
 
My bro had gotten in on the BFG 128MB Ti4200 Black Friday deal at BB a few years ago for $69AR and the fan went bad this year. He RMA'ed it and instead of replacing the fan they sent him a BFG 5900XT OC as a replacement! Might have been a fluke, but either way my next vid card with be a BFG, simply for the warranty.
 
it says that the memory clock is 1000mhz "(effective)". maybe i'm paranoid and delusional, but does including the word effective in the product details mean that it is only works up to that clock speed and can't be raised?

No, "effective" refers to the performance-related speed rating, and not the actual speed rating. They use the term "effective" because the card uses DDR, or Double-Data-Rate memory, rated at 500MHz. Since the memory is able to transfer data theoretically twice as much as Single-Data-Rate memory (hardly used anymore), they refer to the effective speed, which is equivalent to 1000MHz Single-Data-Rate memory.
 
My bfg 6800gt with stock cooler ran very cool. The reason why I went with BFG is cuz of the lifetime warranty. I almost got this deal but I got in the Dell BFG Ultra for under $400 shipped.

the pny 6800gt's do not have dual dvi even though it says so in the description

EVERY pny card will oc past the bfg guaranteed 370 core, and yes the reference designed cooler cools better than the dual fan bfg custom sh1t fan, altho the bfg one looks way cooler and weighs a ton cuz its all copper. but i would call it "rice" when compared to the reference hsf

bfg = lifetime warranty
pny = 3 year warranty after you register

how many of you guys are going to keep the card for 3+ years? i bet not many.

edit: i noticed they said dual dvi with a converter, which isnt dual dvi like the ultras.
 
Yeah, I've owned a PNY card before. Didn't have to RMA it at all, but really, not many people use a card more than 3 years anyways. Last card I kept for three years was a GeForce MX200 (bought in Jan 01) which died in July 04. I wanted to get rid of that terribly slow card anyways, how many people will you find buying new MX200's nowadays??

So yeah, the PNY 3 year warranty should be plenty, and the cooling really is vastly superior to the BFG cooling.
 
when u guys say better cooling, do u mean quieter as well?

I got my PNY 6800 GT for 300 back in July and its been rock solid since. If you are OCing and are getting freezes or skips turn off Fast writes in the BIOS the same goes for all brands of GT's and Ultras.
 
damn, where did you guys score all these deals months ago on the pny 6800 gt? i bought mine right after d3 came out in a bundle deal w/d3, paid $400 for the card and got d3 for free, and i thought i scored a major deal. can't believe you guys scored the card for <$400 back then!!!
 
I got mine from CompUSA when they accidently printed an ad that said 30% off ALL PNY video cards when it was really just suppose to be thier older crap 5200's and 5900XT's. hehe
 
pny is ok on their warranty for me... they replaced my first cooked 4200 64mb with a 4200 128mb, and a second one with a 5600ultra... good deals all around by my reckoning...

I don't think it was a fluke. I bought a BFG 5900 that was supposed to come with a copy of Call Of Duty. At the time the game was really hot and sold for $40 retail. I emailed them and they sent me a copy in a few days. Well, after about two days with the 5900 I took it back to Fry's and emailed BFG and told them I would return Call Of Duty to them. They said no problem, consider the game a late Christmas present.
By the way, the 5900 was a great card but I got tempted by a nice red ATI9800 Pro.
 
This has been posted before I believe but for those of you experiencing lockups and BSODs, turning off fastwrites is not the best solution IMHO. I leave fastwrites on as it seems to give a boost in performance albeit very minor and only noticeable in certain benchmarks. Instead, what I did was use nvflash to download the bios of my 6800 Ultra card. I then used a program to edit the clock speeds. Here is the key thing. Whatever clockspeed your 3D core is running at, make sure to set the 2D to the exact same speed. Do this for memory speed for 2D and 3D.

I believe some of the hangups people are experiencing is due to the switching of the clockspeeds during games or other apps. And since quite a few companies decided to ship cards with overclocked 3D cores but NOT the 2D clockspeed, people who got one of these cards (i.e. from eVGA, BFG, PNY and so on) are having trouble.

Setting the 2D/3D to the same speed really alleviated ALL my problems with lockups, freezes, etc. Before, I'd be lucky if I could get through a gaming session without facing a BSOD.
